We are looking to fill the role of Structural Engineer - Seismic Subject Matter Expert (SME). The seismic engineer is responsible for providing leadership on LJB's structural design of projects in high seismic regions. The seismic SME will have a depth of experience designing low- and mid-rise buildings in high seismic zones. The SME will develop repeatable best practices and drawings standards, mentor, and coach fellow colleagues, self-perform design, and sign and seal drawings.
Pay: $90,000 - 130,000/year
STRUCTURAL ENGINEER - SEISMIC SME ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Independently completes structural calculations for structural systems including superstructures, foundations, and floor slabs
Support the definition of best practices and standards and communicate the contexts in which these practices and standards are applied
Represent the Buildings practice with clients on projects located within high seismic areas.
Validate the requirements and deliverables on LJB structural designs requiring high-seismic design and detailing.
Provide input into and/or create and execute best practices training material.
Able to complete quality reviews to ensure accurate document and drawing production.
Help define seismic procedures or standards within LJB and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
Has the ability to describe where anomalies or flaws may occur within structural drawings influenced by seismic conditions.
Additional Responsibilities and Duties:
Occasionally travels for client meetings during design phase.
Understand the seismic language/terms/jargon to assist in training others.
Assist with development of in-house training and design tools while mentoring junior engineers.
Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training.
Other duties as assigned.
STRUCTURAL ENGINEER - SEISMIC SME ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with structural emphasis required, master's degree preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, Structural Engineer (SE) licensure preferred
Qualifications:
8+ years' experience required in structural steel and reinforced concrete design required.
4+ years' experience with lateral system design and seismic structural analysis required.
Experience using RAM Structural, RAM Elements, Enercalc, and Excel required.
Experience preparing construction documents, drawings, reports, and supporting documentation required.
Masonry and timber building experience preferred.
Mid-rise experience (cast-in-place framed and steel-framed) preferred.
Knowledge of Revit preferred.
