Job Description
The Humanities Department at Sarah Lawrence College seeks a guest faculty position in the history of the Indian Ocean world/South Asia for the 2024-25 academic year. The position is half-time, comprising two semester-long courses; these can either be taught in the same semester (both in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025) or else one per semester.
We welcome applications from historians specializing in the states and cultures of the Indian Ocean/South Asian region at any period. We particularly welcome candidates who employ cross-disciplinary or subaltern methodologies, who take broad comparative or transnational approaches, or who explore the Indian Ocean/South Asia's connections to Africa, the Islamic World, or East Asia. One of the two courses taught should be a broad survey course in Indian Ocean or South Asian history.
Successful candidates will also have a demonstrated commitment to innovation and teaching excellence in the classroom, and to working individually with students. To apply, candidates should submit a cover letter, C.V., proposed syllabi for two courses, a statement of teaching philosophy, and two reference letters.

Compensation listed for this position is on a per-course basis, contingent on teaching experience.
