About the Department



The Section of Hematology/Oncology has a proud and long tradition of excellence in research-based patient care and clinical discovery. Ranked among the finest cancer programs in the country, the Section is comprised of nationally and internationally known faculty with expertise in all major types of malignancies, blood disorders, and experimental therapies.



Job Summary



The Senior Research Technician will be involved in a cutting-edge basic cancer research program that utilizes techniques related to genetics, cancer biology, and cellular biology. They will be involved in projects that utilize mouse models and cellular culture models. The day-to-day work will involve techniques related to animal care, tissue culture, and sample processing in close collaboration with a group of dedicated colleagues.



Responsibilities



  • Advanced tissue culture under limited supervision.


  • Maintenance of cell cultures, including adherent and suspension cells, transfections, cloning and CRISPR-edited cell cultures.


  • Mouse animal care and routine behavior testing.


  • Breeding and organization of mouse strains in collaboration with group members and animal facility.


  • Lead liaison within the lab to maintain stock solutions, order new supplies.


  • May supervise, training/oversee the work of junior level Research Technicians.


  • Applies research principles and relevant subject matter knowledge relevant to administer a research project. With a moderate level of direction, manages lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan.


  • Supports data collection and analytical needs of research projects. Conducts literature reviews and helps write reports and manuscripts. Ensures project compliance with different policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.


  • Takes responsibility for the following laboratory duties: recognizing abnormal results and varying conditions or procedures to correct problems; setting up and performing experiments. Analyze the meaning, significance, causes, and effects of the subject.


  • Performs other related work as needed.





Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications




Education:



  • Advanced degree in biochemistry, life sciences or equivalent.





Experience:



  • Three years of experience as a Research Technician in academia.





Preferred Competencies



  • Strong background in molecular biology and cell culture.


  • Strong background in conducting in vivo experiments on mouse models is an asset.


  • Track record demonstrating to be meticulous and detail oriented.
