Summary:
Under the supervision of a RN, the Monitor Technician monitors, recognizes, and interprets cardiac rhythms while identifying deviations in patients' baseline, and changes in SP02. The Monitor Technician notifies the registered nurse of changes to a patient's status and initiates the appropriate emergency response by the critical care team in the event of a lethal arrhythmia, including irregular heart rhythms and cardiac arrest.
Responsibilities:
Attaches electrodes to patient's bodies to record electrical impulses from the heart to perform continuous ECG Monitoring.Provides complete and accurate handoff of all patient monitoring and events to oncoming shift.Performs continual and simultaneous surveillance of multiple patient monitors.Identifies and corrects for artifacts.Activates emergency response or rapid response for lethal arrhythmia or cardiac arrest.Completes all required shift documentation and updating of patient's records with all readings taken from the heart monitor or EKGs.Identifies arrhythmias, deviation in patients' baseline, signs of patient deterioration, and intervenes to ensure patient safety.Reports abnormal heart rhythms and changes in patients' telemetry monitoring to nursing staff, immediate supervisor or designated chain of command.

Education and Certification Requirements:

Additional Job Information:
Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, effective communications skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Requires sitting for long period of time monitoring and interpreting patients' cardiac rhythms. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Required Work Experience: No prior work experience required. Other Information: Monitor Tech Extern program successful completion required within 60 days post-graduation.
