JOB DESCRIPTION

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Originate, negotiate, and implement a comprehensive internal and external marketing plan that increases revenues and profits for the Company by originating new business. Generates new business through the development and negotiation of new infrastructure projects and new revenue-generating services. Develops, analyzes, and implements strategic alliances, partnerships and affiliations with customers and regulatory bodies.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business, Economics, Marketing, Engineering or a related discipline

EXPERIENCE AND SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in commercial, operational, financial, or transactional roles with exposure to the energy sector.
    • Senior Director - Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in commercial, operational, financial, or transactional roles with exposure to the energy sector.


  • Prior track record of natural gas pipeline development is strongly preferred.

  • Must have a previous working knowledge of FERC natural gas regulations.

  • Knowledge of the energy industry and costing critical to management of team and effective communication with customer.

  • Successful track record of strategic selling and managing complex and challenging negotiations.

  • Previous hands-on experience mentoring and coaching a team.

  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint and Outlook.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

  • Effective in a team, i.e., capable of drawing on expertise in relevant groups to structure, negotiate and implement deals.

  • Innovative in conceptualizing new solutions and properly managing risk.

  • Familiarity with hedging techniques and financial derivative instruments (swaps, collars, swaptions, etc.).

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the natural gas pipeline energy industry.

  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.

  • Understand utilization of Tallgrass pipelines and how impacted by industry dynamics.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.

  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, and follow company policies.

  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines and prioritize work.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Overnight travel as required. Significant travel (~50%) is anticipated and required.

  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.

  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screening and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Position will have indirect responsibility for managing and directing the work of analyst-level personnel.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge of low-carbon solutions across the value chain (production, transport, storage, and utilization).

  • Experience in regulated energy commodity markets.

  • MBA or other relevant graduate degree.

Drives definition and implementation of the Commercial strategy, including:


  • Develop greenfield natural gas pipeline projects, both in connection with Tallgrass' existing footprint and pipeline projects in other regions of the United States, as well as coordinate expansions of existing assets.

  • Coordinate all aspects of natural gas project development ranging from marketing, analytics, competitive landscape, customer development, engineering, system design, government and public relations, regulatory, and project management. Must be capable of leading a cross-functional team, across many disciplines, to successfully execute a commercial project.

  • Establish and maintain performance measurement tools that reflect portfolio positions, including market value at risk and profitability.

  • Identifies high value contacts at potential business targets and creates relationships and awareness of capabilities and offerings, which may require significant travel and frequent in person interactions.

  • Identifying and developing optimal revenue models, sales/distribution channels, pricing, and new product development strategies

  • Develop business in support of origination efforts; identifying and originating transactions which will bring value to the Company.

  • Identify and pursue acquisition candidates that fit into Tallgrass' business strategy. Develop creative restructuring of those candidates that are not an exact fit.

  • Oversee all aspects of the deal-making process including analysis, due diligence, negotiating and closing. Develop customized transactions that address the needs of a variety of customers through the use of company resources.

  • Negotiate contract terms and generate agreements for legal review and execution.

  • Identify and market/restructure Tallgrass assets not performing to expectations.

  • Analyzes U.S. supply/demand fundamentals as well as pricing and market trends in various regions across the country.

  • Develop strong knowledge of business strategy, competitors and operations.

  • Maintains an awareness of changing market conditions, new developments, and competitor strategies.

  • Research, understand, and communicate the detailed mechanics of:
    • Natural gas utility tariff structures across multiple jurisdictions in which Tallgrass is currently doing business.


  • Consult with senior management regarding market trends and their impact on the performance of Tallgrass' assets.

  • Promote Tallgrass business services through active participation in industry groups developing standards and promoting the industry in general.

  • Market existing and new services by developing customer base. Originate and evaluate opportunities to leverage current assets.

  • Establish effective internal and external working relationships to ensure effective operation, financial performance and development of assigned business assets.

  • Scrutinize activities of competitors, identifying risks to the Company's financial performance and develop counter-measures to protect the bottom line.

  • Further relationships with customers by assisting with additional services to enhance services offered by Tallgrass.

  • Implement the recommendations of the strategic marketing plan and provide market research and analysis.

  • Define company strategy for the organization including target customers and applications, competition, pricing, market trends, supplier development and alliances.

  • Develop and maintain top level decisionmaker relationships at target customers.

  • Assist in or produce feasibility studies/business plans for new business opportunities.

  • Develop marketing campaigns for new pipelines and business opportunities. This includes formulating a specific budget and expenditure plan for each.

  • Effectively work with Engineering, Project Management and Operations departments to ensure customer requirements are achieved and aligned with proposals.

  • Effectively work with personnel in Tallgrass' companies (Trailblazer, REX, TIGT, Ruby, Cheyenne Connector, East Cheyenne Gas Storage, Midstream, Terminals, Decarbonization teams and Pony Express) to provide comprehensive solution for the customer.

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate with the company's decarbonization team to ensure the highest value for company assets in serving existing and potential customers.

  • Communicate with management on goals and objectives on a regular and consistent basis.

  • Foster a positive open work environment, system approaches and disciplined execution of all assigned tasks.

  • Collaborate with a variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.

  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance.

  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.

  • Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special projects may be assigned.
