The Accounting Intern develops the knowledge and skills needed to execute accounting and analytical services, by gaining hands-on experience with day-to-day operations. Ideal interns are instrumental in supporting all components of our Accounting team while also ensuring processes are consistently followed. They provide consistent, excellent client service in all interactions with colleagues, clients, and insurance carriers in working through any billing or payment discrepancies. Additionally, the Accounting Intern will assist the Accounting team and others involved in the implementation of new accounting procedures and processes. They also strengthen necessary competencies for both career advancement and business communications by establishing effective relationships with manager, mentor, and peers.



Execution of Client Service

• Ensures timely payment of operating bills to vendors, reviewing for accuracy and approval
  
  


• Analyzes invoices and provides recommendation for direct bill commission statements
  
  


• Prepares daily deposits to bank
  
  


• Performs extensive data entry and processing
  
  


• Conducts carrier research, matching statements with deposits and mailed checks
  
  


• Updates monthly installments and checks for accuracy (proofs and mails invoices)
  
  


• Checks monthly statements for accuracy
  
  


• Identifies shortfalls and payment discrepancies
  
  


• Works with Producers, Account Managers, and insurance companies to resolve billing discrepancies
  
  


• Enters and maintains client data in agency management system
  
  


• Performs related duties as assigned or as a situation dictates

• Maintains accurate and complete client data in agency management systems
  
  


• Consistently achieves data integrity and meets activity timeliness, quality metrics, and goals
  
  


• Utilizes internal resources for identified processes to ensure efficiency and consistency in execution

• Participates in insurance courses, team meetings, and industry webinars for skill and knowledge development
  
  


• Seek opportunities to learn from experienced team members, leveraging their knowledge and expertise to enhance your own understanding of insurance concepts and practices
  
  


• Completes workflow training with manager and/or mentor
  
  


• Meets and provides feedback to manager and/or mentor on a frequent basis
  
  


• Establishes connections and effective working relationships with MMA colleagues, fellow interns within the internship program, and interns within other MMA regions
  
  


• Works toward achieving individual and team goals
  
  


• Develops and delivers group presentation on assigned topic with other interns
  
  

Required

• 1+ years of undergraduate completed
  
  


• Strong written and verbal communication skills
  
  


• Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  
  

Preferred

• Pursuing BS/BA in Accounting/Finance, Mathematics, Business, or related field
  
  


• Intermediate or advanced skill level with Microsoft Word, Excel
