The Quality Engineer I position will work closely with manufacturing to manage product nonconformances and drive process improvements.
In this exciting role as a Quality Engineer I, you will have responsibility for providing quality engineering support for the manufacturing of batteries used in implantable medical devices.

This is a fully on-site position at the MECC site, located in Brooklyn Center, MN.

The MECC facility supports the design, development, and production of numerous components used in implantable devices for a variety of Medtronic businesses. Key aspects of this role include leading and/or supporting quality investigations, review and disposition of non-conforming product, CAPA, collaborating with customer sites (downstream Medtronic facilities) on non-conformance investigation and resolution, and leading / supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality standards and protocol for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.

  • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.

  • Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.

  • Designs or specifies inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.

  • Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.

  • May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.

  • Provide Quality Engineering support for commercial medical device products.

  • Develop, modify, apply and maintain quality standards and protocol for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.

  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.

  • Conduct quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess product acceptability; contain and disposition potentially nonconforming product.

  • Drive product containment decisions and support physical and electronic product segregation for non-conformances. Author and approve associated non-conforming product dispositions.

  • Communicate and escalate significant issues identified during quality activities; recommend process improvements.

  • Apply quality engineering techniques to positively influence projects and manufacturing.

  • Participate in corrective/preventive action teams in resolving production, customer and supplier issues (e.g., nonconformances, CAPA activities, audit findings)

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science or technical field with 0-1 years of work experience in Engineering and/or Quality.

Nice to Have


  • Medical Device experience - engineering internship, co-op, or other previous experience

  • Master's degree

  • Manufacturing Experience

  • Knowledge of DMAIC / Lean Six Sigma principles

  • Good statistical data analysis skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to interface with internal customers and suppliers

  • High attention to detail and accuracy

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$62,400.00 - $93,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
