The Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at The University of Vermont (UVM) invites applications for two full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in One Health and in Dairy Sustainability to begin in August 2025. We interpret these areas broadly, but especially value individuals with the potential for research synergies with existing disciplines and faculty on campus including with the recently established
UVM/USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Food Systems Research Center
.



Qualifications and position description. Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. in the animal or veterinary sciences or a closely related area and have a strong research record. Postdoctoral (or equivalent) experience is required. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, and serve the academic and professional communities. The research program is expected to lead to publications and presentations in peer-reviewed scholarly outlets and be supported by extramural funding. About UVM. The state's land grant institution, The University of Vermont and State Agricultural College, is a comprehensive research university. With over 300 undergraduate majors, the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences is one of the largest departments within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). Our faculty are committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and advising for students with interests in general animal science, pre-veterinary and pre-professional sciences, equine science, dairy production & management, and companion & zoo animal sciences. About the Area. With a metro-area population of approximately 210,000, Burlington is Vermont's largest city. UVM's hometown perennially appears on national rankings that laud its livability, access to nature and recreation (including the best skiing in the northeast), thriving food and music scene, rising identity as a technology and innovation hub, and its status as a top college town. City perks include an active pedestrian marketplace in the heart of downtown, 8 miles of waterfront along Lake Champlain featuring stunning sunsets over the Adirondacks beyond, and a 12-mile paved bike trail that runs along the lake.
