Under minimal supervision of the Radiologists and the Lead Neuro Interventional Technologist, the Neuro Interventional Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic, interventional, and neuro interventional procedures, (including diagnostic, interventional angiograms, neurothrombectomy and nonvascular interventional procedures throughout the imaging department) transporting patients and providing clinical and clerical support. The Neuro Interventional Technologist ensures maintenance of equipment by reporting malfunctions and assists in departmental supply acquisition. The Neuro Interventional Technologist will perform quality angiographic and interventional services at the request of physicians utilizing a wide variety of specialized equipment, software, post processing applications, and machinery. The Neuro Interventional Technologist has responsibility to film and assure appropriate charges are entered for the completed procedure based upon techniques/approaches used in the case. This technologist will be familiar with various supplies used and facilitate in a scrub role with the interventionalist performing the interventional procedure. The Neuro Interventional Technologist will be responsible for the appropriate practice of witnessing and documenting medication waste for the Radiology RNs.
This position may be eligible for a $20,000.00 sign-on incentive, relocation, and tuition loan repayment.
Essential Job Functions
•Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service.
•Ensures radiological services provided are in compliance with standards established by the institution, state, local and federal agencies.
•Performs quality angiographic and interventional services at the request of physicians.
•Special procedure responsibilities include operating specialized equipment such as power injectors, DSA, angiojet, RITA and knowledge in the uses and handling of catheters, wires, drains, etc. Acts a resource for the physicians regarding all wires and catheters in the department.
•Prepares the angiographic suite for the patient by assuring cleanliness and aseptically of the appropriate areas. Sets up the equipment and sterile tray for cases. Acts as the scrub assistant to the physician. Understands and practices aseptic techniques, sets up and maintains the sterile field as well as all pertinent supplies. Positions the patient and thoroughly explains the procedures as well as alleviating apprehension and promoting cooperation as much as possible. Assists in catheter/wire manipulation and sets the injector for contrast injection as needed. Is responsible for assessing for allergies and ensuring the informed consent is obtained prior to a procedure.
•Performs all duties of Diagnostic Imaging and Special Procedure Technologists as required in both the hospital and clinic setting, and maintains competency in all areas of the department.
•Informs management or Lead Neuro IR Technologist of any unusual concerns, situations or conditions relative to staff, patients and physicians.
•Maintains adequate inventory of all required supplies by informing appropriate personnel for acquisition.
•Assures the Neuro Interventional and Special Procedures program is in compliance with regulatory agencies: FDA, ACR, OSHA and NRC by completing appropriate clerical work needed to perform and charge for exams.
•Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.
•Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.
•Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
