Job Description:

Nemours is seeking a Chaplain to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, DE. Candidates must have Completion of 4 units of CPE training AND certified or certification eligible for Board Certification.

The Chaplain provides direct Pastoral Care services to all patients and staff of the Nemours Children's Hospital, and supports the Clinical Pastoral Education and Training (CPET) and supervision to Pastoral Care Interns enrolled in the CPET program as well as support and oversight for Pastoral Care Volunteers. Additionally, the essential functions of the position include:

  • Provide Spiritual comfort to patients and families by visiting patients on a regular basis offering spiritual counseling, sacraments and prayer as requested.
  • Communicate and demonstrate and awareness and acceptance of providing appropriate spiritual care for patient, families, and employees from a variety of religious traditions.
  • Spiritually assess patient and family needs and assist the family in using their faith in dealing with illness, trauma, and/or death.
  • Communicate with nurse and other health care professionals caring for patient and family.
  • Provide bereavement support at time of death for patient, family and staff and support staff in the coordination and offering of appropriate rituals and/or bereavement resources with other members of the care team.
  • Provide Pastoral Care coverage during weekend days and serve as an on-call chaplain and respond to on-call events and requests for service within 5 minutes of receiving page and/or remain within a 30 to 45 minute drive of hospital.
  • Provide spiritual support to all clinical providers in the hospital who request it.
  • Promote diversity, equity and inclusion in all services provided.
  • Foster relations with community ministers.
  • Serve as an active member of medical team.
  • Administer sacraments to patients and families as requested.
  • Participate in the implementation of a Critical Incident Stress De-briefing program for staff as requested.
  • Assure documentation of all visits in patient chart.

    Qualifications:

    • Ordination and/or ecclesiastical endorsement from a particular denominational affiliation.
    • Minimum of 5 years of local parish ministry.
    • Advanced degree required
    • Certification as Clinical Chaplain and Pastoral Counselor
    • Completion of 4 units of CPE training AND certified or certification eligible for Board Certification as Clinical Chaplain and/or Pastoral Counselor within the year.
    • (Optional) Diplomate Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education/Training
    • Bi-Lingual English/Spanish speaking candidates preferred.
