Wells Fargo is seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer with deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Terraform Enterprise (TFE) to lead our cloud infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will provide both technical leadership and hands-on expertise in driving key initiatives, including infrastructure automation, scalability, and high availability. This role will also play a pivotal part in high-priority projects such as GenAI, and will be groomed for future leadership responsibilities within the organization.
In this role, you will:
Technical Leadership: Define the infrastructure strategy and architecture for GCP environments, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security across all platforms.
Cloud Architecture: Design, implement, and manage cloud-based infrastructure solutions on GCP, including compute, storage, networking, and managed services.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Lead and drive automation initiatives using Terraform and Terraform Enterprise, optimizing infrastructure deployment and management processes.
Mentorship & Succession Planning: Mentor and guide engineers on the team, with the intent to be groomed as a potential successor for the Head of GCP Support.
High-Priority Project Leadership: Lead and oversee the successful execution of critical projects, including GenAI, ensuring delivery within tight deadlines.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with software development, DevOps, and product teams to ensure infrastructure aligns with business goals and enhances application performance.
Cost Optimization: Proactively identify opportunities to optimize GCP infrastructure costs while maintaining service performance and reliability.
Security & Compliance: Ensure infrastructure solutions adhere to security best practices and industry compliance standards.
Stakeholder Communication: Translate complex technical concepts and strategies into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
7+ years of experience in Infrastructure Engineering, with at least 5 years of experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Desired Qualifications:
Extensive hands-on experience with Terraform and Terraform Enterprise (TFE) for infrastructure automation.
Proven experience in leading and mentoring technical teams, with a strong ability to drive technical direction and influence decision-making across teams.
Deep knowledge of cloud-native architectures, infrastructure automation, and scalable cloud solutions.
Strong understanding of networking, security, and CI/CD pipelines in a cloud environment.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues at scale.
Experience in managing infrastructure for mission-critical applications with high availability requirements.
Familiarity with containerization technologies like Kubernetes or Docker is a plus.
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Experience with high-priority, high-impact projects such as GenAI is a plus.
Familiarity with service management tools such as JIRA, ServiceNow, and other cloud monitoring tools.
Prior experience in leadership roles, with a track record of successful project delivery within tight deadlines.
