Our Opportunity
The primary role of the Laboratory Technician - Test Associate is to support electrochemical performance evaluation of ion-exchange membranes for water electrolysis applications. The job requires hands on engagement with cell assembly and performance evaluation: pre-functional, functional and/or post-functional troubleshooting which requires mechanical and electrical aptitude along with data management skills. The selected individual in this position will work under minimal supervision with a growth mindset through demonstration of conducting experiments, implementing laboratory procedures and protocols, maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, and monitoring inventory of laboratory supplies. The candidate is also expected to learn how to operate basic laboratory tools in the state-of-the-art chemistry-material science laboratory and maintain a safe environment by understanding of occupational, safety and health hazards, and comply with standard chemical waste disposal practices. The role will directly contribute to FFI Ionix's mission to develop and manufacture world leading membranes to accelerate the adoption of Green Hydrogen.
Key Responsibilities
Preparation of catalyst inks and characterization of ink-formulations using established QC tools
Preparation and coating electrodes using advanced deposition techniques
Fabrication of Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs) and Catalyst Coated Membranes (CCMs)
Assembly of electrochemical cells, pre-functional check out, functional testing and troubleshooting
Upkeep of test data, analyze, visualize and report test results to senior staff.
Perform quality control, inventory management and maintain a clean work area.
Maintain equipment in proper working order and troubleshoot/calibrate equipment as necessary.
Practice safe work procedures and comply with all EHS regulations.
Qualifications and Experience
Must have an associate's degree in science, engineering or technology while candidates with a bachelor's degree are preferred.
Candidates with 3-5 years of hands-on relevant industrial experience in a standard chemistry, material science, engineering or manufacturing laboratory are highly encouraged to apply.
Previous experience in electrochemical device or membrane manufacturing is a plus.
Must have "safety-first attitude" and should effectively works in a team environment.
Ability to understand and operate electronic-computerized equipment in laboratories.
Able to strictly follow standard work instructions and standard operating procedures.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and willingness to learn new computer applications.
Analytical and numerical skills: ability to perform mathematical calculations and generate basic workflow spreadsheets.
Ability to perform physically demanding work such as moving and lifting equipment up to 30 lbs., standing for long periods of time etc.
