RES is seeking a Restoration Ecologist for our Lower Klamath Project Field Office in Hornbrook, CA. (Telework not available)
The Mission: RES is currently managing the world’s largest salmon habitat restoration project, following the removal of four hydroelectric dams on the Klamath River. The Restoration Ecologist will be fully committed to ensuring the success of this historic project.
As a member of the team, you will be assisting our Lead Ecologist in developing and implementing adaptive management plans for 2,200 acres of formerly inundated reservoir lands.
You will develop restoration plans, collect a variety of field data, including monitoring vegetation, and soil testing. You will use that data to inform the approach to restoration and measure progress against performance metrics.
Please be advised that we perform these tasks come rain or come shine and working outside in harsh and adverse weather conditions (including both cold and hot environments) is part of the routine. You will also be walking long distances, on unsteady terrain, traversing through thick vegetation, bending, lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and performing other physical activities.
Around 20% of your time, you will be assisting in office work. You will be performing data entry, processing, analysis, and technical writing. Technical writing tasks include drafting reports based on your field efforts, developing restoration plans, and producing other regulatory deliverables. You will be responsible for preparing reports, figures, and other elements of regulatory documents for the establishment and maintenance of restoration/mitigation projects.
The Restoration Ecologist position will support the Lower Klamath Project’s lead ecologist in developing restoration plans, seeding and planting planning and implementation, biodiversity enhancements, vegetation monitoring, invasive vegetation management plans, specifications and cost estimates for use during the project’s construction, and monitoring phases.
The successful candidate will be an independent, self-motivated individual with strong botanical skills, relevant experience and knowledge in restoration and revegetation, plant community surveys, and vegetation/soil sampling. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in the field in inclement weather conditions and terrains and have a passion for the outdoors.
