Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Operations at Indiana University's Campus Recreational Sports ensures the Student Recreational Sports Center is properly maintained. This includes managing part-time staff, which involves hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating our Operations Leads and Assistants. These staff members focus on cleaning and maintaining our facilities, as well as setting up/tear down of events, including academic classes, open recreation, and indoor intramural/club sport activities.
Assists in planning and executing events and ensures equipment readiness and logistics.
Facilitates recruitment and development opportunities for student leaders and for various student leadership roles, including JB5K, Recfest, SRSA, Team Leaders, Labor Leaders, and Sneak Peek Leaders.
Develops and implements training sessions focused on skill enhancement, team building, and operational efficiency.
Provides mentorship to student staff, guiding them in their professional growth and fostering a positive work environment.
Conducts regular performance evaluations and provides constructive feedback to help staff improve and succeed in their roles.
Organizes employee appreciation events and implements recognition programs to acknowledge outstanding contributions and motivate staff.
Offers resources and support for career planning, including resume workshops and job search strategies.
Ensures safety protocols are followed, maintains certifications, responds to emergencies, and assists with staff training.
Assists with supply receiving, event coordination, inventory management, and space renovations.
Supports the Optimum Equipment Care Plan and assist in planning maintenance events.
Supports the Outdoor/Auxiliary Facility and Bill Garrett Fieldhouse.
Maintains communication, prepares reports, monitors staff performance, and participates in goal setting.
Assists with budget monitoring and contributes to operational documentation.
Promotes exceptional service through training and reminders for staff.
Assists with electronic work requests, coordinates facility and equipment repairs, and more.
General Responsibilities
Provides day-to-day operational management of recreational programming staff.
Establishes short-term operational objectives.
Identifies operational issues and/or areas of improvement and implements solutions to improve processes and/or operational efficiency.
Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned staff; establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews, and provides corrective action as needed.
Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; participates and informs employment decisions for assigned staff.
Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and activities; impacts, and is held accountable for, the performance of team and/or assigned staff.
Ensures and provides training to assigned staff to improve user support operations; researches and identifies development opportunities for assigned staff.
Keeps next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant problems.

EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field
Preferred
Master's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
2 years of related experience with structured recreational programming
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
CPR/AED within 180 days from date of hire
Standard First Aid within 180 days from date of hire
Preventing Disease Transmission/Universal Precautions within 180 days from date of hire

Working Conditions / Demands

Advertised Salary
$55,000 - 65,000 annually, based on education and experience.
