Base salary for this position is dependent upon experience and location:
Locations: AZ, CA (San Diego area preferred or NV)- remote
Salary: CA- $44.32 hourly to $55.40 hourly - remote
Salary: AZ and NV: $40.29 hourly to $50.36 hourly - remote
This highly skilled individual will be responsible for supporting the regional operation and maintenance activities of the electrical infrastructure in multiple Avangrid Renewables' wind and solar plants.
Position Description
This individual will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing system performance, investigation and mitigation of system problems, ensuring plants are operated in accordance with electrical standards and safety guidelines, making recommendations for corrective and preventative action, and providing feedback to design and engineering groups to ensure that installations cost effectively meet system requirements. Additionally, this individual will work with other stakeholders to develop and implement high/medium voltage policies, maintenance programs, procedures, and training programs to ensure a safe working environment - including administering training in arc flash and commissioning QA/QC.
Key Responsibilities
Provide guidance and assist with substation/collector system events to ensure plants are returned to service in a timely and safe manner.
Provide QA/QC to Construction and sub-contractors during commissioning and testing of substations and collector systems. This individual shall ensure compliance with design standards and statement of work.
Provide review of final as-built drawings and test data.
Verify that plant equipment is in compliance with project contract and specification requirements, conforms to design operational feasibility, and is installed and tested per the supplier's requirements.
Interact cross-functionally to provide technical expertise and support through design, construction, commissioning and turnover. Assist with development of BOP standards.
Development, implement and monitor high/medium voltage policies and programs to ensure safe working environment for all employees. Exemplify and uphold Avangrid Renewables' safety awareness culture and assist in developing specific areas of training focus to mitigate hazards.
Provide training to operations personnel in safety hazard recognition, high and medium voltage circuit breakers and disconnect switches, substation, power and GSU transformers, and other relevant BOP equipment.
Manage and oversee maintenance contractors performing substation maintenance. Ensure that applicable (NERC) standards are followed and required reports submitted. Assist with advanced planning and preparation for preventative maintenance activities.
Administer and oversee monthly substation inspection program, and annual battery bank testing. Also, this individual will assist with DGA review.
Provide periodic updates to Company's senior management. Facilitate effective feedback to internal and external resources to identify efficiencies and improvements in project quality, reliability, costs, schedule or other parameters that enhance Company's strategic initiatives.
Active participant on QEW committee and trainer for QEW qualification program.
Provide arc flash awareness and implementation training.
Participate in routine scheduled substation and collector system maintenance activities and electrical remediation projects.
Required Qualifications
Minimum experience of 8 years for Career, 10 years for Senior in engineering and construction or operations of wind energy facilities or equivalent experience with other electric generation plants and /or high voltage transmission lines and substations up to 345kV.
Extensive experience in troubleshooting faults in electrical circuits.
Ability to manage multiple, concurrent, time-sensitive projects and priorities.
Advanced computer skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, management, and reporting systems. Must be able to use computerized diagnostic and troubleshooting tools.
Ability to read, interpret and edit schematics, electrical one/three-line diagrams and wiring diagrams.
Ability to use all resources necessary to acquire manuals, manufacturer drawings, and equipment specifications. Must be able to interpret manuals and consult technical/engineering support to troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment.
Understanding of networking and other communications used in substation protection, control, and monitoring.
Must be able to obtain NERC certification to remotely access all Avangrid generation facilities.
Self-motived to work in a productive and effective manner while travelling and working in remote locations distanced from direct supervision.
Comprehension and understanding of regulatory standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, etc)
Ability to work well with and provide electrical training/guidance to coworkers.
Willing to work overtime on short notice, weekends and holidays.
Ability to travel 60% - 75% of the time.
Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and the ability to obtain class B or higher license.
Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or electrical certification.
SEL relay operations, programming, testing and troubleshooting experience.
Substation commissioning and testing experience. This includes the ability to test transformers, circuit breakers, bushings, and other relevant substation equipment.
Knowledge of electric utility design and operations standards.
Experience in wind plant operations and maintenance.
