Job Description:

Position Summary

To assist the director in the supervision and coordination of the total activities of the Upward Bound Program. Continued employment is contingent upon funding. This position is not eligible for non-probationary status.

Salary: Appropriate placement on Bevill State Community College Salary Schedule: C3, Rank 5, $42,580 - $67,661.

Work Hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist with the identification and selection of project participants.
  2. Schedule and coordinate monthly seminars surrounding topics such as: ethics, career exploration, financial literacy, financial aid, technology, etc. as required.
  3. Coordinate college entrance examination testing preparation for all participants.
  4. Monitor progress of all participants toward achievement of academic and personal goals.
  5. Prepare reports and disseminate information to participants, project staff, college administrators, faculty, staff, and the community.
  6. Document seminars and activities through photography.
  7. Plan cultural and educational trips for participants during each semester.
  8. Create flyers and newsletters to notify participants of upcoming events.
  9. Assist Project Director with monitoring project budget and fiscal records.
  10. Conduct school visits to review academic progress, performance, personal concerns and any other relevant issues.
  11. Maintain weekly contact with Onsite Coordinators and Tutors to identify any potential concerns with participants.
  12. Work in coordination with BSCC Public Relations to manage and maintain the projects social media accounts.
  13. Coordinate academic, vocational, and other assessments for participants.
  14. Provide office management and administrative support.
  15. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly updates to Blumen with all student information, such as tutoring contacts and seminars.
  16. Perform weekly backups to Blumen data.
  17. Submit the Annual Performance Report with assistance from the Project Director.
  18. Collect monthly student information from Onsite Coordinators and Tutors.
  19. Collect participant information from target schools to monitor progress and assist in documenting participant progress for the Annual performance Report (transcripts, GP A, etc.)
  20. Ensure organization and accessibility of student files and documentation.
  21. Monitor participant attendance and progress during Summer Bridge and Component.
  22. Maintain strict confidentiality of participant personally identifying information and project records.
  23. Conduct data analysis on college entrance examination results to identify areas of opportunity for participant improvement.
  24. Perform other duties as needed to support and facilitate the functions of the Upward Bound Program.
  25. Perform other duties as requested by the Project Director, President of Bevill State Community College, or U.S. Department of Education personnel.


Qualifications

  1. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, administration, or a field directly related from a regionally accredited college or university is required. Master's degree preferred.
  2. A minimum of three years experience in working with rural, disadvantaged students is required.


Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:

  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  2. Experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the target population.
  3. Knowledge directly related to Upward Bound objectives.
  4. Experience related to the specified duties of the Upward Bound Coordinator.
  5. Ability to multi-task and prioritize issues.
  6. Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to prescribed routines.
  7. A keen attention to detail.
  8. Skill in operating a mouse to control a computer.
  9. Skill in operating a computer.
  10. Skill in utilizing a phone system.
  11. Ability to work and communicate with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
  12. Ability to make decisions based on correspondence, data or other information.
  13. Ability to utilize email systems to communicate information.
  14. Ability to work with minimal supervision/work independently.
  15. Ability to operate in a professional manner at all times.
