POSITION SUMMARY
The Guided Academic Pathway (GAP) Advisor provides guided academic pathway advising to students in the nursing discipline by addressing the advising, student retention, and completion needs of students. The GAP advisor provides support in the coordination and advising of a specialized support program or academic service areas. GAP Advisor oversees the assessment activities and development of benchmarks and outcomes for assigned programs or service areas. Fosters a positive, collaborative, and student-centered environment that promotes learning and goal attainment. The position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Assist administration in coordinating specialized support programs or academic services; duties include guided academic pathway advising, supporting the intake process for students utilizing the services, data collection using student retention software, reporting, and assessment.
2.Provide intentional advising and referral for students in the Nursing and Nursing assistant discipline; serve as an agent of the Registrar and authorize course withdrawals, adds, and drops, as needed.
3.Assist students on academic warning, probation, or suspension; recommend the best educational path for degree completion.
4.Evaluate and make recommendations on petitions and amendments to student's program of study; monitor academic progress; maintain student files and records; evaluate transfer transcripts for equivalencies.
5.Ensure a seamless transition for transfer students by providing transfer advising and referral to senior colleges or universities.
6.Identify patterns in interrupted (stop out) student degree completion (withdrawal, probation, course failures) and develop strategies to support student retention.
7.Develop monthly GAP reports highlighting student progress via the intentional academic advising model utilizing data from the academic intervention software.
8.Provide ongoing training for faculty and staff on GAP curriculum updates or changes.
9.Manage the data collection and assessment of the assigned specialized support program or academic service.
10.Refer at-risk/high-risk students and students with personal or life concerns to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities or the Center for Academic Success in Healthcare for counseling support and referral, as needed.
11.Collaborate with the academic Chair and/or Dean to support outreach efforts to recruit students in the discipline at internal and external events/fairs.
12.Organize outreach campaigns to provide support for students in the discipline cohort; wok work in collaboration with the Communication Center to assist in the development and delivery of campaigns, as needed.
13.Hold monthly meetings with the Academic Dean.
14.Become thoroughly familiar and comply with college policies and procedures.
15.Other duties as assigned; available to travel to other campuses; some evenings and weekends are required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.Master's Degree.
2.Knowledge of standards and best practices in higher education advising.
3.Higher education academic advising experience for nursing or health care programs.
4.Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, time management, human relations, problem-solving skills, and training and presentation skills.
5.Strong technical data evaluation, analysis, and reporting skills.
6.Familiarity with college Student Information and Reporting systems such as Ellucian (formerly Datatel).
7.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

2.Community College experience.
3.Colleague, degree audit, and retention planning database experience.
4.English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
