Department Summary
The Game Studies and Design BS is an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental degree with faculty in Media Arts, English, Communication Studies, the School of Visual Arts and Design, and the Department of Science and Engineering. This particular hire will be housed in the Department of Media Arts, which also supports two undergraduate majors - a BA in Media Arts and a BA in Converged Broadcast - as well as four undergraduate certificates: Television news Producing, Media Management, Digital Media Studies, and Spanish Language Media. The department also offers a MA degree in Media Arts and an MFA in Documentary Production and Studies.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Overview
This position is for a (renewable) 3 year Lecturer position in Game Art and Animation. Teaching expectations are for 4 classes per semester for the Game Studies and Design major. The classes can include core Game Art and Animation classes like Intro to Digital Content and Animation, core major classes like Game Production Pipeline and the Capstone classes, and it can include whatever specialties the candidate can bring to the program, ranging from 3D Modeling and Texturing to Pixel Art to Concept Art. Additionally, the candidate is expected to serve on department committees and advise students.
Minimum Qualifications
A terminal degree such as an MFA or Ph.D. in Animation, Digital Arts, Game Art, or a related field. Or a BFA, BS or BA in Game Art, Game Animation, or comparable field coupled with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience creating art/animation for successfully shipped video games.
Preferred Qualifications
MFA, MS, MA, or PhD in Game Art, Game Animation, or comparable field.
Three or more years of experience in the game industries.
Teaching experience at the university level.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
