Job DescriptionCentralia College is accepting applications to develop an applicant pool of qualified candidates for part-time, non-permanent sign language interpreter positions.

Under the direction of the Disability Services Office Interpreters facilitate communication between the Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing consumers. Interpreters use American Sign Language (ASL), signed English, transliterating and/or other manual sign systems to provide interpreting services in a wide variety of settings including classrooms and related activities; college events; and employee/applicant activities. Interpreters must be able to adjust to a range of consumer needs and preferences and work comfortably with a wide spectrum of linguistic, cognitive and technical skills. ASL interpreters must be able to convey accurately the register, tone, intent and content of all communication participants. Centralia College is recruiting for American Sign Language Interpreters for all campuses. This position will require a flexible schedule and availability for any situation requiring communication between hearing and hearing impaired persons.Duties and ResponsibilitiesBecause this position interprets in a variety of educational settings, the employee may be exposed to different working conditions. Frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions. Frequent need for oral and auditory communications. Occasionally kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl and reach.
Conditions of Employment Hourly employees who qualify (work 350 hours in 12 consecutive months) are represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE).Screening begins as online applications are submitted.
