    Lecture: Monday 8:30a.m. - 11:20a.m.


    Lab: Tuesday 8:30a.m. - 10:15a.m.





SALARY: $45.00 per hour

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS



  • Master's degree in Biology or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate credits in a combination of the qualifying subfields that provide a foundation in the specific subject matter being taught.

    • Graduate degrees (subfields) that qualify as a related discipline for teaching General Biology include the following: Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Botany, Environmental Sciences, Horticulture, Marine Biology, Microbiology, Science Education, Virology, and Zoology.

    • Qualifying applicable course content (in combination with degree requirements) may include the following: General Biology, Cell Biology, Methods in Biology, Genetics, Evolution, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Ecosystems, Biodiversity, Scientific Methodology, Problem Solving, Scientific Literacy, Embryology, Molecular Biology, and/or Scientific Communication/Literacy.

Other Requirements



  • Teaching experience, specifically with adult learners, desirable.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

  • Canvas (learning management system) knowledge beneficial.






GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Must be willing to commit to all required course contact hours, for each class assignment as scheduled.

  • Responsible for maintaining curriculum rigor in alignment with state requirements.

  • Course Description: This course examines fundamental principles of biology including cell structure and function, energy production by cells and ecosystems, reproduction and genetics, evolution, ecology and a survey of biodiversity. The class emphasizes application of the scientific method to problem-solving. The course is designed to provide a solid foundation for advanced courses in biology as well as providing scientific literacy for all students.

  • Required to manage the instructional process, to include but not limited to: course preparation, student attendance records, student assessment, grading, and must be accessible to students outside of scheduled classroom time (to include electronic communications as well as in-person meetings).

  • Final grades posted within 72-hours of course completion.

  • Assignments will emphasize courses delivered in traditional and alternate modes, scheduled weekdays, evenings and/or weekends in classrooms or science lab.

  • Within 24-hours, maintain electronic communication with students and staff, in regard to course information, through NWTC email and/or Canvas.

  • Work effectively with faculty, various college entities, and General Studies department staff members.
