The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit is a 20-bed state of the art ICU. We care for medical and surgical cardiovascular patients including a large population of Advanced Heart Failure patients pre and post heart transplant patients those needing short or long term ventricular assist device support and patients with cardiopulmonary failure. In addition we care for complex vascular and thoracic surgical patients and those recovering from acute MI. Our interprofessional team of nurses physicians advanced practice providers patient care technicians respiratory care practitioners and physical and occupational therapists work together to ensure optimal high quality care and outcomes for our patients. The CVICU staff is highly engaged in both the work unit and process improvement.








Job Summary:




The Critical Care Technician (CCT), under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, provides delegated age appropriate care in a culturally and ethnically sensitive manner in the Critical Care Units. The CCT assists patients with the tasks outlined in their clinical competency assessment related to basic nursing skills, personal care skills, basic restorative services, and necessary critical care skills.. The CCT practices and performs what was taught during their CNA training and certification or learned during basic nursing courses at an accredited school for professional nurses. The CCT may be asked to provide continuous safety observation. This job reports to the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager of the assigned Critical Care Unit and the RNs on duty on each assigned shift. Other duties as assigned.





EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:





High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.




TRAINING DESCRIPTION:




Completion of the Critical Care Tech course or equivalent within 6 months of date of hire is required.




LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:




State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification is required, otherwise must be currently enrolled in a nursing program and able to provide documentation from an accredited school for professional nurses indicating successful completion of the basic nursing course which encompass all of the criteria noted by the State of Wisconsin administrative code and a minimum experience of one acute care medical/surgical clinical rotation. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.
