The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will provide technical input on component selection, design, manufacturing and testing of electromechanical subassemblies in support of New Product Development (NPD) efforts for innovative surgical devices. As a key member of project Extended Teams, the Manufacturing Engineer will confer with R&D to specify subassembly design characteristics to optimize manufacturability, functionality, cost and quality. They will also work directly with sourcing and suppliers in support of tooling and fixture design, manufacturing process and testing strategy, and the production part qualification process to meet or exceed project milestones and overall business Time to Market (TTM) requirements.

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will work under the direction of an Engineering Manager in a fast-paced collaborative environment supportive of program initiatives and compliant with company best practices.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Understanding of complex electrical and electromechanical systems, evaluates product designs and subassembly interactions and challenges and confirms design decisions to effectively balance functionality with manufacturability and cost.

  • Troubleshoot, conduct failure and root cause analyses, and determine and execute resolution plans as related to functionality of electromechanical systems.

  • Employ experience with prototyping tools, materials and technologies to test and debug prototype electromechanical based systems.

  • Provide guidance to AME team during all builds (Engineering, Trial Assembly, Design V&V, and Pilot Production) to address all technical concerns related to assembly and electromechanical system integrity.

  • Participate in R&D Engineering meetings and Quality Design FMEA meetings.

  • Contribute to the creation of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Testability (DFT) analyses and drives effective resolutions with R&D pertaining to any identified risks.

  • Support team member s in the supplier selection process, including the definition of tooling, manufacturing processes and testing strategies.

  • Participate in Early Supplier Involvement (ESI) technical meetings, effectively documents agreements and risks, and drives closure of open action items.

  • Support suppliers in the design, development, programming, and validation of functional test equipment for product acceptance.

  • Assist project component team in the review, disposition, and approval of supplier PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) submissions.

  • Advise management of any unmitigated risks and/or developments that could affect TTM or standard cost.

  • Travel to supplier sites may be required less than 25% of the time, possibly outside of US.

  • Continue to enhance engineering and leadership skills through additional training and education.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 2 years relevant experience

Nice to Have


  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in electromechanical systems.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of DFMEA and PFMEA.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of GD&T.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of DFM, DFA and DFT principles.

  • Significant experience with electrical and electromechanical systems, PCB layout and fabrication and determination and execution of testing requirements.

  • Significant experience with projects that require the interface of mechanical, hardware and software components.

  • Significant experience with low to high volume component part and subassembly manufacturing best practices.

  • Ability to successfully manage external contract engineering services.

  • Strong familiarity with statistical analyses, including process capability, process control, Design of Experiments, etc.

  • Strong understanding of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for component part qualification.

  • Exceptional Project Management and Team Leadership skills.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Strong computer skills Knowledge / Experience with RoHS standard, including compliant materials and processes.

  • Ability to work across global business units.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$97,600.00 - $146,400.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
