Hospice is about quality of life. Your compassion and loving presence are all that is required to make a tremendous difference in someone's life. Signature Hospice invites you to join our team to support patients and families in your community!

RESPONSIBILITIES

Our volunteer training prepares you in providing companionship and support that patients and families need when faced with a terminal illness. Your volunteer experience will be as different as people are. We take into our visits what brings a patient joy in their interests and soul's purpose. You may go on walks with a person in the garden at a facility, or you might listen to stories about their life, adventures, and relationships. With a listening ear, you may hear about current worries and concerns. You will provide a comforting presence by being there, and seeing who someone is, not their disease. The gift of your volunteer company may just be the healing presence needed.

Our volunteer opportunities include direct patient/family companionship and support . Examples include writing letters, reading books aloud, playing board and card games, playing and listening to music, providing conversations and companionship, sitting quietly, watching tv or enjoying nature, and sometimes helping with bucket list items or putting together legacy projects to leave behind for family and friends.

We also have a tremendous need for special-interest volunteers if you have a particular hobby or passion you wish to share. Do you play an instrument ? Are you part of a certified pet therapy team and have a pet who would love to brighten a patient's day? Are you interested in joining our vigil support team that after additional training, you provide bedside compassionate presence during someone's final hours? Our training will prepare you for a multitude of ways to form a connection with your patient and support them through the end-of-life transition.

QUALIFICATIONS

Signature Hospice serves patients and families in the Multnomah, Clackamas, Yamhill, and Washington county areas. You will visit patients/families in your local community.
