The Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) serves as the catalyst for enhancing the quality of the undergraduate student experience while promoting on-time graduation for all undergraduate students at IU Indianapolis. Three units report up to the DUE: University College, Honors College and the Institute for Engaged Learning.
The Office of Communications and Digital Strategy serves as the central communications team for the Division of Undergraduate Education, providing marketing and communication leadership, strategy, services, and education to division stakeholders.
Job Summary
The Division of Undergraduate Education is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director to oversee the Groups Scholars Program, which is designed to support the college transition and academic success of first-generation, underrepresented students. The director is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic planning, and day-to-day management of the program, ensuring that students receive the resources, mentorship, and guidance necessary to thrive at IU Indianapolis. This role reports directly to the Senior Director of Educational Equity Programs and plays a key role in supporting the college access and success of first-generation, underrepresented students.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Leads the strategic planning and direction of the Groups Scholars Program, ensuring alignment with the university's mission to support first-generation, underrepresented students.
Manages the program's budget and resources, including securing additional funding through grant writing and external partnerships to support program sustainability and growth.
Oversees the recruitment, selection, and transition of Groups Scholars, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive process that reaches targeted student populations.
Develops and implements initiatives focused on academic success, personal development, and student engagement for Groups Scholars, including mentoring, academic advising, and tutoring services.
Supervises and supports a team of program staff, including the program coordinator, residential mentors, tutors, and course instructors.
Maintains critical relationships with stakeholders, including students, guidance counselors, families, community leaders, and university departments, to ensure the success of the program.
Provides support for the strategic planning and development of campus initiatives designed to increase college access and success for first-generation, underrepresented students; including identifying barriers, creating innovative solutions, and working with internal and external stakeholders to implement and evaluate programs that improve educational outcomes for these populations.
Monitors and assesses program outcomes, prepare reports, and ensure timely submission of all necessary documentation to state and institutional entities.
Develops strategies for continuous program improvement, working closely with the Senior Executive Director of Educational Equity Programs.

Identifies operational issues and/or areas of improvement and implements solutions to improve processes and/or operational efficiency.
Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned staff; establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews, and provides corrective action as needed.
Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; participates and informs employment decisions for assigned staff.
Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and activities; impacts, and is held accountable for, the performance of team and/or assigned staff.
Ensures and provides training to assigned staff to improve student support operations; researches and identifies development opportunities for assigned staff.
Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry standards, best practices, and emerging technology; keeps next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant problems.

EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree in social work, law, or related field
Preferred
Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
2 years in student support, higher education student affairs, or related field
Preferred
5 years of administrative and supervisory experience, preferably in college access and academic support programs aimed at serving first-generation, underrepresented students
Experience in working with diverse populations, particularly first-generation, underrepresented students

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
