The Clinical Instructor will devote time and effort to the CLIA laboratory testing in the department of Pathology as well as engage in medical student teaching.
You are expected to devote time and effort to CLIA laboratory testing. The main reason for your recruitment is to fully engage in the newly created Meharry Medical College Consolidated Laboratories and serve as either Medical Director or Laboratory Supervisor as the need arises. Your duties will include setting up and validating all clinical laboratory tests, assisting in the physical design of the laboratories, conducting pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical testing which satisfies CLIA, COLLA and CAP accreditations and in fact leads to these accreditations in short order. In addition, your duties will include assisting with the setup and implementation of a LIMS which integrates with all of the EMRs of our clinical clients. Our clinical clients will include but will not be limited to those patients seen within the Meharry Medical Group, Meharry Clinics, Meharry students and staff in addition to those patients within the Anchor phlebotomy network. Our goal will be to expand reimbursable clinical pathology services to patients and in addition serve as a reference laboratory. Your recruitment and role are essential to this success and it is expected that you will work closely with Dr. Barsky and his clinical laboratory team to ensure this goal. You will be expected to engage in a consistent record of positive classroom contributions to include instruction, innovative teaching, and course development-teaching both undergraduate and graduate trainees, mentoring and advising students and residents. Time spent on academic committees, curriculum development and supervision, as well as interviewing is included in this percentage.
