We are seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer in our Tucson, AZ location. In this role, you will be responsible for providing advanced engineering skills and project planning for electromechanical solutions for Garmin's Sporting Dog products.
Essential Functions
Able to complete the most difficult tasks as a Master CAD-user including the completion of complex mechanical designs
Knowledge of injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining, material requirements, material performance, material limitations, etc.
Specify test plans, mock up and test complex mechanical systems with complex performance requirements to validate and verify compliance with design requirements
Manage basic tradeoffs, determine risk mitigation plans, determine project goal/objective feasibility, provide technical input to product development plans/concept documents, and drive process vendors to evaluate complex mechanical designs and understand risk
Lead explorations of new technologies and make estimates on moderately complex mechanical designs including: tooling, part cost, and design time
Knowledge of Industry and Garmin product qualification tests (environmental and others)
Provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques and offer process improvements and author new procedures
Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced Mechanical Engineers (1 & 2) on technologies, cost analysis, design techniques and problem solving process
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Demonstrated knowledge and capability to use CAD software for completing complex mechanical designs
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
Electronic packaging design experience
Specific Consumer Electronics industry background
Advanced CAD skills in SolidWorks and/or Onshape
Experience creating test plans and validating products throughout the design cycle
Independent ownership of a design being able to take a product from concept all the way through the product launch
