During this fourteen-week in-person/hybrid claims analytics internship program, you will have the opportunity to learn about claims data analytics including data querying and manipulation, data analysis, business intelligence development, and data quality. You will receive firsthand purposeful work allowing for a realistic preview of working in claims analytics.
As an intern, you will receive training and support from your mentor as well as many other members of the division from entry level to senior level.
The Data Analytics, Claims Intern is a part of the Agricultural Insurance Internship. The Agricultural Insurance Internship is a partnership between five different departments within Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies. Interns who are a part of the Agricultural Insurance Internship will get to have unique experiences in our Claims, Underwriting, Marketing, Agency and Public Policy & Commodity Division spaces. While you will be hired into one space, you will go through rotational Wednesdays, where you spend each Wednesday within one of the five departments listed in the Agricultura Insurance Internship.
All summer interns will also have the opportunity to participate in the following events:

Intern Farm Visit
Additionally, all summer interns will participate in the Capstone Presentation. This will be a presentation to recap your summer with Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies, the projects you worked on and any other information regarding your internship.
Leverage data analytics tools to write and modify queries to prepare data for analysis.
Document life cycle of claims data.
Analyze claims data to gain insights into business processes and performance.
Prepare reports to present analysis findings.
Assist with data cleanup efforts.
Participate in meetings via in-person or teams.
Engage in weekly check ins which may include personal development workshops.
Opportunities to get out and see the industry and the different functions within it.
Present Capstone project upon internship wrap up.
Participate in internship evaluation.
Gain an understanding of key functions through on the job training and development.
Collaborate with department staff to contribute on various processes and projects.
Assist department managers with day-to-day tasks and procedures.
Undertake special assignments as instructed by department manager.
Build relationships with department stakeholders and contribute toward company and department goals.
Currently enrolled in insurance, risk management, actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or data analytics courses.
Have an interest in insurance and data analytics.
Basic knowledge of data analytic tools (Excel, SQL, R, Python, Tableau, etc.)
A technical, logical thought process.
Self-motivated and willing to “dig deeper”.
Provide own transportation.
Ability to dress for professional setting.
Dedication to learning and continuous improvement.
Must be enrolled at a college or university and have declared a major course of study moving closer to (or working toward) graduation.
Proven track record as an excellent team player required.
Outstanding communication and customer service skills.
Familiarity with computer equipment and software required to complete job functions.
