Job Description:

Location: Kanab, UT (relocation assistance may be available)



Hiring Range: This position's hiring range is anticipated to be $18.00 to $20.00 hourly, depending on experience, plus great benefits!



Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled.




Summary: People come from all over the world to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary to engage with our animals, staff and learn more about our life saving work. The Visitor Experience Float helps fill in the department's staffing gaps to ensure that our visitors and volunteers have an enjoyable Sanctuary experience and leave Kanab educated and inspired to return home to their communities, thus continuing the lifesaving work which supports the Best Friends' Mission to Save Them All.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



Volunteer Engagement




  • Assist the Group Experience Specialist in coordinating visiting groups






  • Respond to group experience inquiries






  • Process group registrations and cancellations; send forms and other information to registrants prior to visit






  • Maintain, organize & update group support materials as needed, and coordinate setup of equipment and presentations as needed






  • Manage group experience schedule; providing additional on-site support during group activities






  • Lead and/or provide support for Sanctuary group tours.






  • Share information about Best Friends lifesaving mission and conduct presentations






  • Regularly lead volunteer activities at the Kindness Camper






  • Regularly lead volunteer activities at the Kindness Camper. This includes walk-in visitors and organized group activities.






  • Restock toy/bed making supplies; deliver completed toys/beds to animal care areas






  • Animal Care Department Support






  • Plan and coordinate group service projects with animal care supervisors






  • Proactively visit animal care areas to find new and recurring group service projects






  • Provide back-up Volunteer Coordinator support to Cat World and Dogtown as needed




Visitor Engagement and Stewardship




  • Provide regular support for Sanctuary tours (Grand Sanctuary Tour) from the BF Roadhouse, Welcome Center and backup for VIP tours.






  • Periodically act as the Adoption Hub tour greeter






  • Occasionally provide support for visitor engagement group activities or programs such as Discovery Weekend, Friends & Founders, adoption events, onsite workshops, etc.






  • Assist with providing content (i.e. photos, stories, etc) for Thursday Lunch Stories, Workplace posts and the Best Friends social media team






  • Assist with community events to promote the Sanctuary




General




  • Be knowledgeable and informed regarding current trends in and materials about animal welfare.

Skills and Experience:





  • A minimum of one year's experience coordinating projects and collaborating interdepartmentally.






  • Skilled in starting and maintaining effective and professional relationships with visitors, volunteers and fellow staff, including with those that have different viewpoints.






  • Ability to professionally speak about Best Friends activities and positions on issues.






  • Resourceful, get-it-done attitude; ability to adapt to new work areas or processes; problem solving, seeking answers independently and enthusiastically; flexibility to persist until department goals are achieved.






  • Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along with people from different backgrounds.






  • Abilityto work in a fast-paced environment withwell-developedorganization skillsto juggle multiple competing tasks and demands; with accurate, appropriate, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills; and strong listening skills.






  • Must be proficient in Google and Microsoft Office applications with the ability to learn and use new applications quickly.





Physical Requirements:





  • Routinely lift 50 pounds and perform daily strenuous activity including, but not limited to lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning, and bending.






  • Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time including typing, sitting, walking, arm, and hand motion.






  • Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.






  • Frequent exposure to dogs, cats and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status.






  • Valid driver's license, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance, ability to travel, including overnight stays, when needed.






  • Daily hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department schedule; position includes weekends, nights, and holiday work.
