Job Description

The Wellesley College Nordic Ski Club is looking for a head coach. This student led club team competes in the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference. Wellesley College is a women's college located outside of Boston in Wellesley, MA. A big focus for the club is having fun outdoors and introducing new skiers to the sport. Wellesley is looking for a coach who fosters a positive environment and is willing to meet skiers where they are, no matter their level.


The Club is run by a student executive board that is responsible for everything from scheduling practices at the Weston Ski Track to booking weekend race transportation and accommodations. The Club works with Wellesley's student funding group and the Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics department (PERA) to organize everything for the club. The Club is looking for a coach who can work with this kind of organizational structure and focus primarily on supporting student athletes on the snow. The season runs from the end of January to whenever the snow melts locally (usually end of February/early March). There are three two-hour practices a week and three weekend races in February. These weekends typically include two races, one Saturday and one Sunday and involve travel Friday-Sunday. It is expected that the coach will attend all practices and competitions. The roster last year was approximatley 20 students.



Requirements:


  • First Aid/CPR certification

  • Ability to plan and attend three practices a week

  • Ability to attend weekend races

  • Communication with team presidents throughout season

  • Ability to provide instruction and encouragement to skiers of all skill levels

  • Ability to teach fundamentals to new skiers

  • Approve skier engagement and participation for Physical Education credits

Club Sports are under the supervision of the Director of Recreation in the PERA department. Club Sport Coaches are part time faculty, non-benefit eligible employees. The position approval is contingent on approval of the Director of Recreation and completion of a full background check and motor vehicle screenings. The position compensation is $2,900.
