Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Preconstruction Manager at R.C. Mathews Contractor in Nashville, TN. The Preconstruction Manager will support and work with the preconstruction, management, and operations teams in the review of project plans, requirements, and specifications.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following (other tasks may be assigned):
Perform complex estimating assignments across all business units.
Utilize estimating software tools proficiently, including On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Building Connected, Sage, Ediphi, Autodesk Build, BIM tools (e.g., Revit, Assemble), and Microsoft OneNote.
Go beyond provided information to ask the right questions and deliver a comprehensive project cost evaluation.
Understand and execute various delivery methods, including hard bid, negotiated GMP, and Design-Build.
Gather historical data from past or ongoing projects to inform future estimates.
Review detailed drawings across all trade disciplines to ensure accuracy and completeness for all project scopes of work.
Prepare detailed instructions for bidders, trade-specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of scope definition and clearly communicate pricing requirements to subcontractors.
Collaborate with the VDC group during estimates to develop quantities, logistics plans, etc.
Formulate and complete take-offs on a per project basis.
Manage the bidding process with subcontractors and vendors: solicit bids, communicate with bidders, evaluate subcontractor proposals, and use bid tally sheets.
Participate in the preconstruction phase from initial estimate through the formalization of subcontracts.
Develop reliable cost predictions and be comfortable estimating across all scopes of work.
Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
Compile conceptual estimates, including project benchmarks and details.
Collaborate with operations teams on general requirements, including fees, financials, staffing, and construction schedules.
Establish and maintain relationships with architects, owners, engineers, designers, clients, and others for potential business development.
Participate in estimate reviews with project management, design teams, and owners.
Visit job sites to assess estimate accuracy and impact.
Prepare and present cost/budget information to customers/owners.

3+ years of commercial construction estimating and/or project management experience
