Job Summary

The Senior QA Engineer will take ownership of designing and executing comprehensive test strategies to ensure the highest level of software quality. This includes leading quality assurance processes for a range of testing methodologies such as integration, regression, smoke, and user acceptance testing (UAT). The focus is on ensuring that all aspects of the system are thoroughly tested to provide a seamless and reliable user experience. The role requires strong collaboration with cross-functional teams and leadership in defect identification and resolution.

Additional Job Summary/Info:

We are seeking a Senior QA Engineer to drive the design, development, and execution of testing strategies for our in-house Content Management System (CMS). This role is essential to ensuring that the CMS meets all functional and performance requirements, delivering a smooth user experience for millions of viewers. Familiarity with OTT platforms, video streaming services, TV channel management, and scheduling systems is considered a strong plus.

As a Senior QA Engineer within the Xumo Software Engineering Team, your primary focus will be on implementing comprehensive testing methodologies, including integration testing, regression testing, smoke testing, and performance testing. While the position requires technical expertise in relevant tools and environments, the primary emphasis is on ensuring thorough and systematic quality assurance processes that align with business goals and product requirements.



  • Position is office based in Irvine, CA- 4 days/week & 1 day/week remote.

  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work for Comcast in the United States without a current or potential future need for sponsorship.


Position Duties:


  • Develop and implement QA strategies covering all areas of system quality, including functional testing, regression testing, integration testing, smoke testing, and performance testing.

  • Lead the creation and execution of detailed test plans for both manual and automated testing, ensuring accurate feedback to cross-functional teams on issues and areas for improvement.

  • Collaborate with front-end and back-end engineering teams to identify testing requirements, estimate testing timelines, and integrate QA processes into development workflows.

  • Manage the progression of tests, utilizing project management tools like JIRA and QA testing tools such as QA Touch to ensure transparent tracking and reporting.

  • Continuously refine and improve QA processes and testing frameworks, incorporating the latest practices in testing automation and methodologies.

  • Oversee the defect identification and resolution process, leading efforts to reproduce, document, and track issues while working closely with development teams to ensure timely fixes.

  • Ensure full test coverage of both UI and backend components (including API testing and data verification) to provide a seamless user experience across the CMS and streaming platforms.

  • Act as a key contributor and mentor within the QA team, helping to implement best practices and provide guidance on test execution and automation strategies.

Required Qualifications:

While the focus of the role is on QA systems and processes, the following technical skills are required to effectively collaborate with engineering teams and manage test environments:


  • 5+ years' experience in UI testing with frameworks like React and JavaScript.

  • 5+ years' experience using QA tools such as QATouch and Xray.

  • 5+ years' experience in SQL and performing data queries for backend verification.

  • 5+ years' experience in testing web service APIs (REST/SOAP) and testing protocols (HTTP/SSL).

  • 5+ years' experience testing both front-end (UI) and back-end (API, database) systems.

  • Proven experience with performance testing and load testing tools to assess system scalability and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with tools like GitHub for version control, Jenkins for continuous integration, and RabbitMQ.

  • Basic scripting knowledge (Python, Bash) to facilitate test automation.

  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for managing test environments.

  • Understanding of Linux commands to support backend and infrastructure testing.

  • Familiarity with OTT platforms, video streaming services, TV channels, and scheduling systems is a strong plus.

  • Experience with video formats (HLS, MP4, Mpeg-Dash) and testing content management workflows (e.g., content metadata, caption files).

  • Exposure to testing within cloud-based environments (Google Cloud, AWS, Azure).

  • Test automation for both API and UI applications.

Core Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with Product and Development teams to align testing efforts with product requirements and overall system functionality.

  • Lead the development and execution of testing strategies, with an emphasis on integration and regression testing, to ensure the CMS and streaming platforms meet performance and reliability standards.

  • Ensure that all new features, updates, and fixes undergo thorough testing to identify and resolve any potential issues before release.

  • Manage regression testing and participate in design and code reviews to provide early feedback on testability.

  • Mentor junior QA engineers, fostering an environment of continuous improvement in QA methodologies and practices.

  • Regularly review project progress, evaluate test results, and recommend improvements where necessary.

  • Lead efforts to investigate and resolve defects, working closely with development teams to ensure fixes are properly verified and retested.

  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.

Salary:

Primary Location Pay Range: $111,065.91 - $166,598.86
