We provide support groups, education classes, presentations and training to families and peers impacted by mental health conditions at no cost to the community. Our programs are led by families and peers with lived experience working to empower others in their recovery journey.Position SummarySeeking a peer in recovery that provides flexible, community based services to adults in recovery. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) intern will work to promote the empowerment, recovery, and community integration of peers who are living with a mental health condition or symptoms by facilitating opportunities for peers receiving service to direct their own recovery and advocacy process. PRSS will teach and support the acquisition and utilization of skills needed to facilitate the youths recovery, promoting the knowledge of available service options and choices, the utilization of community resources, and helping facilitate the development of a sense of wellness and self-worth. This position is open only to peers that are not already state certified as a peer recovery support specialist.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesPeer Support/CoachingProvide peer support services to adults in the NAMI Southern Nevada Peer Recovery Support Specialist program.Attend individual and group meetings with participants to plan and implement a support plan.Facilitate helpline/warmline hours, ensuring a professional and supportive environment for individuals in need of assistance and guidance.Apply general knowledge of recovery services to complete small projects or conduct a series of tasks with a limited degree of supervision.Work with the participants to identify, develop, and access supports to increase his/her success in community integration and community inclusion.Support and teach recovery and recovery tools and models personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hopefulness.Facilitate the participant's self-review of progress upon each encounter.In partnership with each participant assess their hopes, strengths, accomplishments, and challenges in order to achieve his/her stated goals.In partnership with each participant, develop the recovery plan and his/her support system in order to support him/her in becoming self-sufficient.Support participants in the self-management of critical or crisis situations.Support participants in coordinating with or in choosing his/her significant and relevant supports in order to arrange services or resources to achieve his/her goals.Assist the participant in preparation and recording of the peer support recovery plan, encounter notes, and other documents that verify service delivery using person-first language, in a timely manner according to established quality and regulatory standards.Use knowledge, skills, and training from Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist training.Capability training to model, coach, support, and advocate with participants.Escort participants when necessary and ensure participants safety when participating in events, visits, and other interactions.Facilitate weekly support groups and group wellness classes/activitiesAdministrativeParticipate in weekly supervision and in team review of documentation of the comprehensive assessment of participants in various life domains.Create a weekly schedule that meets existing program productivity standards and supervision.Participate in staff meetings and training.Ensure that all participants visits are documented immediately.Ensure that all data is correct by verifying information with the participant on every visit.Other DutiesDemonstrate a level of knowledge and skills within a specific activity to consistently meet or exceed service requirements.Report any activities that may violate established laws, regulations, policies, or procedures.
