Missouri American Water has a full-time opportunity available for an Associate Project Manager to join our team in St. Louis, MO. This role will be over our new large service application process. As the Associate Project Manager, you will be responsible for working with contractors, submitting construction plans, create invoicing, and making sure American Water policy and process is followed throughout the duration of projects.




Primary Role



Manage, coordinate and administer all large new water and wastewater system construction projects as well as large tap destruction.




Key Accountabilities




  • Interface with developers, developer engineers/contractors, company engineers and operations associates and state/local regulatory bodies to ensure efficient installation and destruction of large water and wastewater projects.
  • Review and approve new service plans to ensure the proposed service meets company and regulatory standards.
  • Collect payment and provide invoicing for new taps.
  • Create work orders and coordinate inspection and tap during construction and ensure that as-built information is recorded and tracked properly.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical, bidding and contractual documents associated with new services.
  • Ensure scope and quality of work achieve the intent of all Design Concepts and Company standards for capacity, performance, reliability, safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Develops technical information and concepts into feasible and effective approaches.
  • Develop strategic and strong working relationships with engineering firms, vendors, and contractors.
  • Provide technical expertise on engineering and operational issues related to large new services and tap destroys.




Knowledge/Skills




  • Strong project management skills (e.g., planning, organizing, directing, monitoring and reporting of project activities).
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders, governmental agencies, consultants and the general public.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills (e.g., presentation, report writing).
  • Strong interpersonal skills (tact/diplomacy, persuasion, cooperation and ability to influence others).
  • Computer literacy. Competent in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, flow-charting, project scheduling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering design theory and practice, project management, construction and contract management, water resources, water/wastewater facilities and utility operations.
  • Knowledge of current trends in water quality and treatment and other aspects of the regulated and non-regulated water industry.
  • General understanding of US regulations (commercial and environmental), legislation and trends impacting the water industry.
  • Knowledge of company procedures, policies and operations.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations, federal and state water quality and design regulations and technical standards.




Experience/Education




  • Associate/Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Management or related field is preferred.
  • Equivalent work-related experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • 3 to 4 years of experience in project management related to water and/or wastewater utility engineering, operations or related field.



Travel Requirements



  • 5-10% within respective Operating Unit(s).
  • Occasional travel outside of respective Operating Unit(s).

  • Full-time
  • Monday-Friday, daylight hours




Work Environment




  • 90% Office 10% Field.
