Wood has an exciting opportunity for a Field Piping Designer to work on our office and field locations in the Midland, TX area, Project work is associated with brownfield surface facilities retrofits, expansions, and debottlenecking projects, primarily in the mechanical/piping space.
Typical projects include:
Vapor Recovery Units to eliminate flaring
Pipeline capacity expansion and debottlenecking
Processing facilities optimization, including crude oil separation, water treatment, pumping capacity, utilities upgrades, and electrical systems retrofits
Minor piping and mechanical retrofits in existing facilities
Produced fluids metering facilities
Site walkdowns, mark-ups development, and as-built documentation
RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Objective:
Contribute to engineering excellence by linking design theory and practical application, translating critical design concepts into workable plans for tangible end-products.
Prepare engineering drawings from rough sketches or general engineering information
Create designs and detailed plans for commercial, industrial, and civil sector structures and systems
Handle technical assignments of substantial variety and complexity
Prepare mechanical or digital drawings, diagrams, blueprints, and models using CAD/CADD software
Role and Key Accountabilities:
Produce facility designs and layouts with knowledge of structural, mechanical, controls, and electrical equipment systems
Understand codes applicable to equipment and construction (NEC, IEC, ASME, AISC, AWS, OSHA, NFPA, local codes, MCBU standards, and Chevron Engineering Standards)
Perform design tasks for purchasing and construction level drawings with limited supervision
Create reliable CAD models with precision, including assemblies, exploded view diagrams, and layouts with BOMs
Develop and improve department practices/standards
Review scope documents and specifications to ensure design meets SOW expectations and COMPANY requirements
Execute designs on challenging projects
Conduct design reviews and travel to COMPANY jobsites as required
Typically, 5+ years of relevant design experience in oil and gas, industrial construction, or power generation industries
Develop working drawings from equipment specifications and detailed drawings
Create drawings involving plans, layouts, calculations, and bills of material
Perform layouts, design, and checking work from basic data supplied
Design and make detail drawings from rough sketches involving intricate calculations
Establish project drafting standards and monitor their conformance
Identify cost-effective solutions to design problems
Assist in bid evaluations
Design and construct models, prototypes, processes, or equipment
Prepare estimates of time, quantities, materials, and labor required for testing, installation, manufacture, design, or construction
Generate bill of materials from finished designs
Act as coordinator on small projects and prepare specifications for complex equipment and processes
Ensure quality in design and technical accuracy in drawings and material quantities
Plan assigned work effectively and liaise with the project team and line manager
Conduct site visits/surveys and provide inputs to site visit reports
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications:
5-10 years related engineering design exxperience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Full understanding of materials and methods used in their discipline
Understanding of related engineering principles and practices
Capable of interpreting key documents (engineering standards, piping material specifications, P&IDs, Line Lists)
