Position Summary:
Performs all activities necessary to process one or more multi-state, multi-cycle, payrolls which includes, but is not limited to maintaining related records, voluntary deduction reports, processing involuntary deductions, configuration, reconciliation, and preparing special reports for Finance and Management.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
Processes multi-state, multi-cycle payrolls from beginning to end.
Coordinates with supervisors and managers to ensure payroll records are updated and accurate prior to processing payroll.
Audits time entries to confirm adherence to company policies and procedures and adjusts as needed.
Works with Sr. Payroll Specialist to resolve payroll discrepancies.
Prepares payroll reports for Finance and Management.
Assists with payroll and 401(k) auditing and reconciliation.
Responds to payroll related inquiries from associates timely and professionally.
Assists with year-end activities such as W2 processing, ACA reporting and tax reconciliations.
Responds to employment verifications.
Keys employee changes in HRIS/Payroll system.
Administrative tasks such as filing and creating employee folders.
Miscellaneous related duties or projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
General understanding of the major components included in the calculation of net pay, i.e. gross wages, deductions, taxes, etc.
Ability to understand system configuration and impact on earnings and deductions
Proficient in MS Office products, with advanced knowledge in Excel.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
Responds with a sense of urgency; excellent follow through skills.
Ability to maintain a high degree of sensitivity and exercise discretion regarding confidential material.
Experience with multistate, union and non-union payroll is preferred.
Ability to read and comprehend collective bargaining agreements for pay rules, benefit requirements and attendance plan rules (vacation, sick, holiday, etc.)
Education and Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum 1-2+ years of payroll experience or experience in a related field such as accounting or finance.
