We are seeking a full-time Senior Certification Engineer - Aircraft Systems Safety in our Wichita, KS or New Century, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the aircraft system safety assessment process and generating the required analyses in support of Garmin STC projects.
Essential Functions
Interface with Hardware, Software and EMC groups to ensure appropriate design assurance levels are considered
Develop draft safety analysis in support of TIA issuance
Perform qualitative analysis, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis and particular risk/common cause analyses as required to certify the STC installations
Coordinate internal Garmin groups to communicate safety assessment requirements
Generate compliance statements for 23.1309 and other regulations that require system safety substantiation in support of Garmin STC projects
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Previous experience working in avionics design, installation and FAA certification
Must be detail-oriented and work proactively and effectively with some supervision support
Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
Demonstrated knowledge of FAA regulations applicable to avionics and flight controls certification efforts
Demonstrated working knowledge of the FAA STC process
Demonstrated understanding of commercial avionics interface standards and their installation
Demonstrated clear understanding of the FAA system safety process
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated advanced knowledge in one or more of the following technical areas: Electrical Systems, Structures, Mechanical Systems, System Safety, HIRF/Lightning, and/or Aircraft Certification
Desired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
Knowledge of FAA regulations applicable to avionics and flight controls certification efforts particularly those associated with system safety such as 23.1309
Thorough knowledge of AC 23/25.1309 and SAE ARPs 4761 and 4754
Thorough working knowledge of the FAA system safety process, including at least 3 years conducting aircraft level system safety analysis
Pilot's license
