What You'll Be Doing:
Inspecting, observing, documenting, and verifying work progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents and plans.
Confirming procedures are followed and materials used conform to plan specifications.
Advise Contractor of the necessary actions to ensure conformance with plan, specs, and contract.
Review and resolve any quantity disputes with contractor.
Utilize inspection practices to perform calculations, constructability and bid reviews, and measurements of completed work to date.
Reviews daily reports of assigned work activities, contactor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.
Perform on-site material testing and produce as constructed sketches.
What You'll Bring:
High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
Ten (10) years of field experience in the bridge deck and bridge rehabilitation/construction, roadway construction, concrete, soils, and pavement sampling, testing, and inspection on MDOT (Michigan Department of Transportation) and/or MDOT Local Agency roadway, bridge, and ancillary structures construction projects is preferred.
All applicable MDOT certifications
Experience with MDOT documentation, inspection reports, and Field Manager/Field Book use.
Knowledge of AASHTO, FHWA, and MDOT standards, policies & practices, and current procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
Construction inspection for assigned project.
Perform as single point of contact for all project related issues.
Observe and document work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with the plans and specifications.
Prepare daily work reports and photo documentation.
Review and process monthly pay applications.
Prepare contract change orders.
Gather field data and prepare response to request for information (RFI) from the contractor.
Coordinate materials testing in accordance with MDOT Guideline for Sampling and Testing
Coordinate with construction contractors, design engineers, and agency staff as needed.
Perform constructability review and provide comments to design engineers.
Perform quantity take offs and review engineer's estimate.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site
Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
Able to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours
Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
Able to climb and leave a ladder to a platform varying from 6' to 20'
Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
Able to move equipment or inspection specimens weighing up to 50 pounds
