We are seeking sophomore and junior students majoring in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology or a related field for two 12-Week Student Intern roles to be working in Gaithersburg, MD for a May 19th - August 8th contract period.
Position Duties:
This role has two separate headcount for the descriptions listed below.
Upstream Bioprocess Intern:
Assess new technologies and equipment designated for manufacturing use.
Create standard operating procedures for new equipment.
Test and confirm new equipment works as intended by using data collected from said equipment.
Process Scale Up Intern:
Perform In-Vitro Transcription (IVT) for synthesis of mRNA using aseptic techniques to minimize contamination risks.
Carry out downstream operations of chromatography purification and ultrafiltration of the mRNA-LNP intermediates.
Analysis of in-process intermediates and study samples to determine product titer and purity using in-house assays.
Design and conduct studies for stability testing, characterization of mixing systems for scale-up and analytical assay development that will aid in process evaluation.
Perform final formulation process for the mRNA-LNP drug product.
Maintain documentation, record data and analysis to recommend process and facility improvements.
Position Requirements:
Undergraduate sophomore and junior students majoring in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology or a related field.
Candidates must have an expected graduation date after August 2025.
Previous lab exposure required.
Lab experience with aseptic handling, chromatography, filtration, HPLC, and analytical techniques are preferred.
Microsoft Office experience such as Excel, Word, and Outlook required.
Enthusiasm for collaboration, cross-functional projects, public speaking, and presentation design.
US Work Authorization is required at time of application.
This role will not be providing CPT/OPT support.
Ability to report onsite to Gaithersburg, MD for 5 days a week. This role can provide relocation assistance to non-local candidates in need.
Minimum grade point average of 3.0
