Position Purpose
Supports the current product engineering group in continuous improvement of production machining processes. Identifies, develops, and implements improvements to machining methods and processes. Mentor's other technicians and associates in the correct machining methods while assisting in continued development of their systems skills.
Essential Functions:
Developing knowledge of the plant machining processes and transferring that knowledge to the production personnel.
Identify areas in which tooling, cleanliness, operation sequences or machining consistency can be improved to increase throughput or product quality.
Develop process documentation and systems to increase throughput or product quality.
Perform low volume trial production runs.
Perform inspection operations and collect all necessary data to determine process capability and part quality.
Identify, define, and implement improvements to processes through the application of problem-solving tools, both individually and working in teams.
Fabricate jigs and fixtures as required.
Work with Engineering on new and current machined products. Assist in providing prototype suspension system components to evaluate and validate designs.
Provide a clean and safe work environment by performing general housekeeping and eliminating hazards.
Optimize tool and insert selection to increase productivity.
Optimize machining programs to allow for flexibility.
Assist in defining long range capital planning.
Refinement of machining process through tooling and methods optimization.
Help define when a process meets production readiness coming from New Product Engineering.
Help define preventative maintenance procedures/schedules and make sure they are completed on time.
Selection, justification, and implementation of CNC machining equipment.
All other duties as assigned.
Education and Training
Associate's degree Preferred
Minimum of 10 years direct experience in a machining environment.
