Job Description




Advanced Placement (AP®) Readers evaluate and score AP students' free-responses ensuring that high school students receive AP grades that accurately reflect college-level achievement in a specified discipline.


In addition to helping support the learning, growth, and potential of our next generation, as an AP Reader, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the AP Exam so you can better assess your student work.

General Job Requirements



AP Readers score student responses either in-person at Reading sites or from home in June.


All in-person Readers must be able to work at the Reading site location for seven consecutive days. Readers scoring from home can work flexible schedules during the 7-day Reading period but must attend mandatory training during the required times on the first day of the event.


All Readers must maintain scoring accuracy and productivity standards while being supported through training and mentorship.



Eligibility Requirements



Only candidates who are legally authorized to work in the United States will be considered for employment.



For High School AP Teachers



All current AP course authorized high school teachers who are actively teaching their AP subject are welcome to apply regardless of years of experience.


Any course that a school labels "AP" must receive authorization through a process called the AP Course Audit. You can find AP Course Audit information here:

For College-Level Faculty



AP Readers from colleges and universities must be active faculty members (full-time or adjunct) or graduate teaching assistants who have taught at least one semester of a comparable AP course within the past three years.


Graduate teaching assistants, and part-time or adjunct faculty may be considered for appointment, as long as they have taught or assisted in teaching at least one semester of the equivalent course within the past three years.


Additional requirements for certain courses:



African American Studies



Active college faculty teaching a course in African American Studies/Africana Studies/Black Studies or African American History or a course that incorporates elements of these fields will be considered.



Computer Science Principles (CSP)



All CSP applicants must specify which programming languages they have expertise in as part of the application process.



Precalculus



College faculty must be active faculty who teach Precalculus, College Algebra with Trigonometry, Calculus, or a mathematics course for which one of these courses is a prerequisite.



Research



College faculty must be active faculty members and teach a course specifically focused on scholarly research skills and methods or one in which students undertake a research paper employing an explicit methodological approach. Faculty who provide undergraduate research opportunities and mentor students are also encouraged to apply.



Seminar



College faculty must be active faculty members and teach an interdisciplinary course, teach within an honors program, or a course specifically focused on critical thinking. Faculty who have taught undergraduate seminar courses are also encouraged to apply



Compensation



AP Readers are compensated at a rate of $30 per hour for their work during the AP Reading.If a Reader works more or fewer than 40 hours before the end of the Reading week, the same hourly and overtime (if applicable) rates will apply, and their compensation will be calculated accordingly. Readers who travel to a Reading site are reimbursed for travel expenses.



Technical Requirements for Readers Scoring Online from Home



Readers will use required scoring and related software on their desktop or laptop personal computer. You must have a PC (tablets are NOT supported).
