The Associate Dean for Medical Education is responsible for all activities related to employing continuous quality improvement principles, development, and implementation of innovative approaches to medical education spanning the four year undergraduate medical education curriculum; administrative oversight of related areas regarding medical education in the institution. The Associate Dean of Medical Education reports directly to the Dean of the School of Medicine.
Daily Operations
Provide leadership in the design, development, and implementation of a comprehensive approach to program evaluation; overseeing course/clerkship evaluation by students, participating faculty, and other appropriate stakeholders;
Encourage and facilitate educational scholarship and publication of articles on medical education topics.
Coordinate and oversee all activities regarding the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) re-accreditation process on behalf of the Meharry Medical College, School of Medicine.
Provide leadership, supervision, and coordination of the activities of the personnel staffing the Office of Medical Education.
Participate in national educational organizations (e.g. AAMC) and play an active role in making presentations about the development, implementation, and progress of the Meharry Medical College School of Medicine educational program.
Serves on various committees within the School of Medicine as assigned by the Dean.
Chairs the Curriculum Committee.
Leads the UME educational programs in strategic and operational planning, implementation, monitoring/assessment and continuous quality enhancement.
Works with faculty governance on curricular transformation and development
Ensures appropriate integration of foundational science and social, behavioral, public health, population health and health systems topics into the medical education programs
Required Skills

Required Education and Experience
MD or equivalent required
Completion of a ACGME residency program required
Board Eligibility or Board Certification in area of specialty required
Eligible for license to practice medicine in the State of Tennessee required
DEA required
Recognition as an excellent educator
Meet criteria for a faculty appointment in the School of Medicine
Demonstrated interest in medical education research
Demonstrated ability to work with individuals in the academic community
Must have at least five (5) years of experience in an institution of higher education, preferable in a Health Sciences Center.
