The University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Applied Science (Penn Engineering) is seeking an experienced entrepreneur and innovator to join its faculty as a Practice Professor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (exact rank to be determined based on qualifications and experience). The candidate will join our successful Penn Engineering Entrepreneurship program, which offers popular courses in entrepreneurship at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and works with vibrant innovation & entrepreneurship organizations at Penn, such as the university's VentureLab. The Engineering Entrepreneurship program also supports early-stage startups founded on Penn Engineering technology by Penn faculty and students.
Responsibilities of this position include:
Educating and training students in the fundamentals of technological innovation and entrepreneurship
Creating new curriculum that incorporates entrepreneurial training at all levels
Fostering partnerships between the Penn Engineering community and entrepreneurs and investors in the Greater Philadelphia region to catalyze new ventures and enhance the innovation ecosystem
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
Advanced degree (master's or Ph.D.) in engineering or equivalent.
A proven record of entrepreneurship as a founder, co-founder or early employee of at least one successful technology startup, or experience working with or supporting successful technology startups.
Exceptional interest in teaching entrepreneurship and providing mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students of all engineering and computer science disciplines.
Applications are welcome from all engineering, applied science, and computer science disciplines at all levels - assistant, associate and full professor in the practice track. The successful candidate will be appointed to one of the six academic departments in Penn's School of Engineering and Applied Science (http://www.seas.upenn.edu/). The appointment is renewable: every three years at the practice assistant professor level until promotion, and every five years at the practice associate or practice professor level.
