Job Summary:

The Instructional Staff I for the Professional Truck Driving Academy is responsible for instructing backing maneuver and hands-on training to the Professional Truck Driving Academy students. This position under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This is a staff teaching position, not faculty. This position is considered exempt.



Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Implement practical training consisting of primarily range and street training for Class A, Class B, Refresher Course and customized training following established program curriculum.

  • Complete CDL 3rd Party Testing Examiner certification within 6 months of employment.

  • Track student progress through online curriculum modules.

  • Demonstrate exemplary technique in the operation of equipment

  • Convey industry-accepted standards regarding operational techniques of equipment

  • Work with students from different backgrounds and cultures, as well as different knowledge and skill levels

  • Meet with lead instructor on daily basis to discuss training activities

  • Interact with colleagues utilizing a team-teaching concept

  • Work in a non-traditional teaching environment (i.e., range truck noise, street driving, unusual conditions that might arise)

  • Work flexible hours, including possible weekend and night-time training

  • Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to needs of the Institute.

  • Maintain good working relationships with businesses, industries, and truck driving advisory committee

  • Maintain good working relationships with staff, faculty, and administration at Lamar Institute of Technology

  • Come to work in a timely and predictable manner

  • Tolerate stressful conditions as they arise

  • Follow institute policies and procedures

  • Attend advisory committee meetings as necessary

  • Must maintain knowledge of LIT truck driving program's goals and objectives

  • Other duties may be assigned on a regular or occasional basis to respond to the needs of the Institute





Physical Requirements:Must meet the minimum physical and mental requirements as set forth in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and Noise Emission Requirements (FMCSR), Chapter III-Federal Highway Administration, Department of Transportation-Subject e-Physical Qualifications and Examinations, 391.41. Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions (range and street driving)
Minimum Qualifications:


Minimum Education/Qualifications Required:


  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Must possess and maintain a class "A" CDL (commercial driver's license) and at least a tank endorsement

  • Minimum three (3) years verifiable OTR (over-the-road) experience

  • Must pass a 3-year driving record check without any major moving violations

  • Experience with operation of tractor-van trailer and bulk tanker desired

  • Must have knowledge of industry accepted training techniques

  • Must have knowledge of and compliance with the most current rules and regulations of Federal Motor carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR)
