This is an applicant pool. Individuals will be hired as needed. Gateway Navigators are students who work collaboratively with the Gateway Network Program designed to assist students in passing Gateway classes. Navigators to provide individual and group tutoring sessions. This position assists students in improving academic achievement, supports students by reviewing and clarifying learning programs, and provides useful study skills to students that need supplemental help. Navigators also work with faculty to identify student issues (i.e., poor academic performance, test anxiety, poor attendance, etc…) that could be impacting the student negatively, and work to track and mentor students in an effort to improve student success and retention. Navigators are responsible for outreach efforts to retain students.
Salary Schedule: $15.00 - $18.75 per hour not to exceed 19 hours per week.
This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon funding from the grant. Non-probationary status is not attainable by employment in this position, the funding and duration of which are finite. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide academic tutoring to students in specific Gateway courses.
Teach study skills strategies.
Assist students in the preparation for homework and tests, including midterms and finals.
Review class materials and discuss textbook information with students.
Administer practice tests.
Connect with students outside of class regarding attendance issues and test preparation.
Mentor students in order to retain and promote good decision making as it relates to student success.
Help students improve attendance and promote good study habits.
Qualifications
Evidence to the student has passed the subject he or she is being asked to tutor with a grade of "A".
GPA of 3.0 or higher
Good interpersonal communication skills
Recommendation from faculty member

In the event that a tutor must be absent, he or she should contact the Academic Affairs office to report absence.
