Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. Two to four years of recent relevant clinical nursing experience required.
Current RN licensure with Maryland State Board of Nursing required.
Graduation from a WOCN-accredited wound, ostomy continence program or satisfactory completion of an accredited program required.
Certification by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board required.
The acceptable WOCNCB certifications are:
• Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN)
• Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON)
• Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN)
BLS required.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in clean, well-lighted patient care areas. May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations. Must be able to work under physical and mental stress for duration of shift. May be physically and verbally abused by patients. Works primarily day shift, but some flexibility to meet the consultative and educational needs of patients, families and staff is expected. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring the observance of Standard (Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting
Physical Requirements
Work is heavy. Standing and walking part of the time on duty. Involves frequent heavy lifting, up to and in excess of one hundred (100) lbs., carrying, pushing, reaching for, handling, fingering, grasping and pulling equipment, in accordance with Safe Patient Lifting policy. Requires appropriate listening and speaking skills to converse with patients, staff, visitors and physicians. Requires hearing/listening to differentiate sounds. Visual acuity is necessary to read charts, documents, and use various instruments/equipment.
