As a member of the Clinical Services team, the Child Life Specialist will join a strong transdisciplinary team serving a diverse patient population consisting primarily of children with complex medical needs including Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Neurogenic/Neurologic disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Down Syndrome.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leads normal play activities for patients/families.
Participates in multidisciplinary health care teams.
Provides procedural preparation and support for invasive procedures to alleviate a child’s stress and fear.
Advocates for pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions and treatment plans that promote positive coping and assists staff, patients, and families in creating coping plans for procedures and other therapeutic interventions to help promote a positive experience.
Provides developmental and psychosocial observations/assessments and interventions as appropriate.
Provides opportunity for medical play and therapeutic activities.
Performs other duties as required and assigned

Skill in intervention and collaboration

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with patients, their families, clinic staff and community members
Ability to operate personal computer and related office equipment as needed to perform job function

Ability to function as a team member and develop strategies to assist patients and families adjust to the medical diagnosis and treatment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master’s Degree required
Experience:
One or more years related experience required
Licenses and Certificates:
Certified Child Life Specialist Certificate required
BLS certification required
FINGERPRINT CLEARANCE
Employees are required to maintain a current Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card. Proof of a current fingerprint clearance card must be received within 90 days of employment.
