ECS is seeking talented and driven professionals to support the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). In this role, you will serve as a scientific and technical advisor to ARPA-H-enabling the agency to manage and provide oversight to advanced R&D efforts; help shape future R&D concepts, programs, and solutions; integrate and advance our nation's healthcare ecosystem processes, policies, and enabling technologies; and enable the agency to expand its healthcare and scientific scope into yet unknown areas. As a "systems engineering and technical assistance" advisor, you will provide support and thought leadership to R&D performer teams, Government Program Managers, and stakeholders across the health innovation ecosystem. This role supports the Resilience Systems Office (RSO).
What you will do:
Serve as NLP / ML Expert:
Lead the ideation / conceptualization, overall strategy and oversight of multiple programs utilizing large language models for a variety of healthcare applications, to include patient-facing chat agents, solutions to enhance interoperability amongst electronic health records (EHRs) systems via NLP, and overall synthesis of public health data to prioritize programs and at-risk populatins.
Utilize your in-depth NLP/LLM (e.g., neural networks, training methods, addresses bias) knowledge and skills to assist ARPA-H shape future programs and manage the delivery of multiple disparate performer team.
Analyze and interpret complex healthcare data using AI/ML methods:
Ideate and establish initiatives to enhance diagnosis, risk assessment, and drug discovery.
Utilize healthcare knowledge and machine learning methods to identify patterns and insights from vast datasets of medical records, genomics information, and wearable device data.
Stay current with scientific advancements:
Actively track and analyze new research findings in this field.
Identify and propose emerging methodologies and technologies that could enhance the program's progress.
Participate in scientific discussions and presentations, contributing your expertise to the program's overall knowledge base.
Collaborate effectively within a diverse team:
Build strong relationships with computational scientists, engineers, and other scientific advisors involved in the program.
Communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Actively participate in brainstorming sessions and problem-solving exercises to drive the program forward.
Salary Range: $100,000-$180,000

Required Skills:
PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related engineering / scientific field
20 years professional experience
10 years minimum experience in natural language processing (NLP), large language models (LLMs), and machine learning within the healthcare ecosystem
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, analyze data, and write scientific reports.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong work ethic and a passion for healthcare and scientific discovery.
U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required Per contract.
Desired Skills:
Three years or more experience within a Federal ARPA organization.
Two years or more experience in Federal Healthcare and/or Scientific Consulting.
Experience supporting complex healthcare and programs of a research and development nature.
