Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Outside Sales Representative sells technical products and services to corporate customers, develops new opportunities, and interacts with existing clients to increase sales. They work closely with technical sales product groups and customer service staff, act as a technical interface between the customer and the company, prepare sales forecasts, and conduct technical sales briefings. They also investigate new product applications and customer requirements.

  • Maintain broad knowledge of clients, products, and services.



  • Make an ownership-level commitment to learn about the key markets and long-term growth opportunities within the assigned region.



  • Document customer interactions and transactions.



  • Answer customer inquiries professionally.



  • Work with the Architectural Business Development group on project-specific follow-up sales opportunities.



  • Work with technical product groups on quote follow-up for sales opportunities.



  • Work with the sales team when assistance is needed with a customer.



  • Conducted face-to-face and remote sales for new customers and cross-up/repeat sales for existing customers.



  • Assess customer needs and suggest appropriate products, services, and/or solutions, delivering sales bids/proposals/presentations and conducting product demonstrations.



  • Develop medium to long-term sales plans and prepare strategies to protect, grow, and diversify the relationship with targeted customers.





  • Attend trade shows, conferences, and other industry events to represent the company and promote our products and services.





  • Adhere to company policies and ethically conduct all business.





  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Work experience requirements



  • Minimum of 2 years of sales or relevant work experience, preferably in the Building Material segment.

  • Perform mathematical calculations such as discounts, interest, and percentages, and apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.



  • Work effectively in a fast-paced team environment, exhibiting strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.



  • Communicate clearly and professionally through excellent written and verbal communication skills.



  • Demonstrate critical and independent thinking skills to anticipate and resolve issues and manage time and resources effectively to multitask and meet deadlines.



  • Maintain a professional and calm demeanor in stressful situations and handle difficult customer interactions with professionalism and poise.



  • A valid driver’s license, car insurance, a satisfactory driving record, and the use of a reliable personal vehicle.



  • Ability to travel (including during inclement weather) to and from assigned territories and company facilities using a reliable personal vehicle.



  • Above average computer skills (i.e., Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Email)



  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.



Equipment



  • Personal desktop computers, fax machines, copy machines, calculators, writing instruments, telephones, and various printers. 





  • Issued safety equipment



Safety



  • This position is largely sedentary; however, caution needs to be taken when lifting files, and boxes, and opening file cabinet drawers, and desk drawers.





  • To avoid injuries to hands, back, and neck, proper ergonomics should be maintained while working at a desk/workstation.



Work Environment



  • Primarily works in an office environment with a controlled climate.



  • Ability to perform light-hand activity work at a computer/telephone station in an office environment. Position is primarily sedentary.





  • Some duties may involve being in a plant environment where noise levels can be moderate to high and be subject to the same general climate conditions of the region (heat, cold, humidity, etc.). 





  • Chemicals, dust, pollen, and other typical airborne particulate matter are present within the atmosphere of the production floor and may create some odors in the plant. The company, to provide its employees with a safe and healthy working environment limits exposure to chemicals through written procedures, engineering controls, and PPE.





  • While the chemical exposure and odors are under acceptable levels set by OSHA and the



  • WCB, nevertheless, can be smelled and handled according to the company’s hazardous communication program.
