Summary Description: As a Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist, you will assist the QA Manager in providing and improving quality efforts. The ideal candidate will have an eye for detail and be very team oriented. They will be a highly motivated individual with a passion for implementing and maintaining quality management systems. The QA specialist is part of a QA Team that strives to ensure the company is consistently delivering high quality, coordinated documents to clients which incorporate their project specific criteria. They must enjoy mentoring staff and assisting in the development of training initiatives.


Job Requiremetns

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Constantly maintain awareness of evolving building technology, codes, and systems
  • Research new products and materials, building sciences and construction processes
  • Coordinate with project teams to respond to the technical implications of design decisions
  • Provide guidance on use of proposed building products and materials, their suitability for the intended application, and suggest alternatives when appropriate.
  • Participate in schematic design, design development and contract document work sessions with project teams.
  • Perform QA reviews of the construction documents by adding comments and sketches to drawing sets to verify compliance with code, constructability, and Hoefer Welker best practices
  • Review documents for adherence accessibility codes
  • Provide on-demand guidance and problem resolution during the CA phase, assisting teams in their review of submittals and RFIs
  • Be a key participant within the studio, advancing shared knowledge and professional development
  • Provide mentoring for staff and cultivate environment of shared knowledge and learning
  • Maintain awareness of sustainable design ratings systems, and sustainable products and materials.
  • Maintain awareness of the Hoefer Welker Precautionary List and avoid specifying materials and products containing substances on the list whenever possible
  • Collaborate with peers via regularly scheduled firm-wide internal learning and development conference calls, to share knowledge, develop best practices, and maintain awareness of industry reference standards and sources/locations
  • Support the development of in-house technical initiatives and office-wide training
  • Works closely with the Quality Assurance Manager to make certain the quality protocols are initiated and adhered to through the life of the project

Education/Experience: Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or equivalent work experience. Registered architect, 10+ years of experience in the entire design process with a focus on construction documentation and specification coordination. Revit preferred. Bluebeam studio is required. Multi-family and healthcare project types desired. LEED certification not required but familiarity is preferred.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • A thorough understanding of industry codes, regulations, and standards, including accessibility
  • Knowledge of the construction process, means and methods, and materials, their characteristics, installation procedures and tolerances
  • Ability to manage through influence in a team environment
  • Ability to introduce efficiencies and modern techniques to existing processes
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills are required
  • Experience in quality assurance and applying quality protocols preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication and mentorship/ leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as with various disciplines and types of people and committed to being an effective, contributing team player
