Interns will have the opportunity to participate in the annual three-day summer intern event in Des Moines, Iowa where they will have the opportunity to tour state-of-the-art facilities, network with leadership, and gain a broader understanding of MidAmerican Energy Company. Other panels, lunch and learns , and events will be happening throughout the summer to give our interns the best experience.
Responsibilities: Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
Assist other network engineers with lifecycle replacement of older Nokia switch and router equipment throughout our nationwide network.
Plan and coordinate wireless access point expansions.
Create and update documentation and drawings of existing network structure and components.
Ensure network device configurations are backed up and discoverable.
Design and create projects for new fiber optic construction and to new and existing MidAmerican Energy facilities, including service centers and substations.
Identify and test current network conditions and provide recommendations to ensure that the voice and data network infrastructure is positioned to meet business requirements.
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Qualifications: Skills for Success
Strong understanding of IP ports, protocols, network traffic analysis, network security strategies and troubleshooting techniques.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - ability to break a large system down into individual components and determine where a problem lies.
Strong analysis and design skills involving the ability to gather data on systems issues, define alternative approaches, assess business impact, recommend cost effective solutions, and develop and implement those solutions.
Experience with network discovery and documentation tools such as CiscoWorks and Microsoft Visio is a plus.
Strong knowledge of current networking technologies, tools, applications and vendors.
Experience configuring and maintaining these technologies in a large business environment is a plus.
Energy industry work experience is a plus.
Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Qualifications
College student, sophomore or higher standing in a bachelor's degree program or final year of an associate's degree in information technology or computer science.
Must be available May-August 2025.
